Jayne Kent
August 26, 1933 ~ October 8, 2022
On October 8, 2022, Jayne Kent passed away peacefully in her home in Oakton, Va. She was born on August 26, 1933 to Marion and John Paul Jones in Tulsa, OK. She grew up in Norfolk, VA where she graduated from Maury High School. She then attended Mary Washington College and graduated from the University of South Carolina where she was an Alpha Delta Pi.
Her teaching career began in Las Vegas, NV, and then she taught for the government in France and Germany and traveled the world. After returning to the states, she met a handsome Naval officer, Rod Kent, in Virginia Beach and the next chapter of her life began.
They soon wed. Shortly after, their son and daughter, Ronald and Kimberlee were born. The Navy then moved them to Northern Virginia where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Fairfax County School system was the beneficiary of this move. She taught at Layton Hall/Daniels Run Elementary School for 34 years. Jayne was adored by her students and their families. She was a generous and experienced mentor to countless new teachers. She had a unique capacity for making people feel special. Jayne made and maintained numerous friendships throughout the years.
Getting an invitation to dine with Jayne was quite a treat. There was nothing more that she loved than entertaining her family and friends. Quite often it might have been sitting around her beautifully set table or at one of her newly discovered restaurants. Everyone that spent time with Jayne always felt special after being together.
She was predeceased by her husband, Capt. Ronald H. “Rod” Kent, Sr. USN. Survivors include her two children, Ronald Kent Jr. of Birmingham, AL and Kimberlee Kent of Oakton, VA; her sister, Carolyn Yosaitis, of Landsdowne, VA, AKA “Noodle”, as they lovingly called each other; and her four grandchildren, Cameron, Mallory, Crawford, and Hayden Kent.
Funeral Services will be held at Arlington Cemetery, and we will share more information as it becomes available. All will be welcome at the funeral, burial and reception following the services.

I am so sorry to hear of Jayne’s passing. I had 3 boys in Layton Hall and my youngest was in her 4th grade class-he is now 55! He talks so often of his time in her class and how she was his favorite teacher. I will be forever grateful for all she did for him. She was a special person who cared for everyone. I know she will be missed by many family and friends. My Sympathy, Barbara Hull and former student Jeffrey Hull.
