Jeanne Marie Henson

May 16, 1932 ~ September 26, 2024

Born in: Saint-Gaultier, France
Resided in: Stephens City, Virginia

Jeanne M. Henson, 92, died on September 26, 2024, in Phoenix, AZ, where she had been on
an extended visit with her son. Jeanne was born and raised in France, where, along with her
grandparents, she survived the German occupation during World War II.

She emigrated to the United States in 1955 after meeting and marrying her American military
service husband Fanoy. For the next decade, as a military wife, she resided in Florida, Spain,
Illinois, and ultimately Virginia, wherever her husband was stationed, setting up house for their
growing family. She was a Virginia resident from 1962 on, living in Falls Church, then Vienna,
and finally, Stephens City.

Jeanne raised and nurtured five children, cooking, cleaning, laundering, and managing the
overall domestic needs of a family of seven. The sheer amount of work this demanded is belied
by the simplicity of that sentence.

At age 62, Jeanne began work at Appletree School in Vienna, VA, ultimately becoming
responsible for all aspects of kitchen management. She introduced her young pre-school
students to new foods and many fondly remember her chicken salad and “broccoli trees”
decades later. She loved her job and retired after 20 years there at age 82. She resumed an
early passion for knitting, softly clicking through tens of skeins of brightly-colored yarn in her
twilight years.

Jeanne loved spending weekends shopping with her two younger daughters and had
boundless energy for same-day excursions to multiple shops and malls. Christmas held special
joy for her. She totally embodied the adage “It is better to give than to receive,” overfilling the
tree each year with too many wrapped packages for everyone. She loved giving presents.
Jeanne was an eager and comfortable traveler, over the years visiting Europe, Canada,
California, Arizona, Maine, and many locations throughout Virginia and the southeast. A trip to
Myrtle Beach, the Outer Banks, or Virginia Beach was an annual affair with some subset of her
children and grandchildren.

Above all, Jeanne will be remembered for her generosity. She was selfless in her love for and
devotion to her family. She leaves to carry on daughters Patricia and Muriel; sons Jerry and
Steven; grandchildren Michael, Brian, Kayla and Christopher; and great grandson Lucas. Her
husband Fanoy died in 2013 and daughter Carol in 2022. We expect they have provided some
version of a warm home for her to again fill with love.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Money and
King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave. W., Vienna, VA

  2. My mother who I will miss tremendously was always there for me, and my other siblings whenever we needed help for anything. She was a great cook in the kitchen, and as a kid I watched her make dinners for our large family of seven. Hence all those lessons have made me a great cook. I appreciated it so much. Most of my cooking utensils came from my mother to make my cooking adventures possible. She never missed a birthday, and I got cards every year. There are countless “thanks” I could say about all the wonderful attributions my mother did for me. I will love her and remember her always. Love you Ma so much/Your son, Jerry
