Joan Glenn Canan “Joanie” passed peacefully on Friday December 8,2023. Joanie was born April 21,1960 in Washington, DC. The third child of Elaine (Wunder) and James T. Glenn. She attended Connelly School of the Holy Child and Montgomery College. Upon graduation, she worked in the hotel management industry in various cities including Hilton Head Island.

Joanie married Michael Canan in 1991. Joanie then went to work at the White House under the Reagan administration. She was responsible for replicating President Reagan’s signature on presidential memorabilia. When a new administration came into office, Joanie transitioned to the Arlington Catholic Diocese where she was a secretary and also worked at the paper, The Arlington Catholic Herald.

Joanie was guided by her faith. She was a parishioner at St. Phillip Catholic Church in Falls Church. She enjoyed helping out and bringing her boys to the Fall Festival. She also enjoyed working on craft projects at the church. Summers were spent at the Woodley Pool timing many swimmeets for both her boys and in recent years, a place to have pizza with friends. In recent years, as her health became a challenge, Joanie enjoyed classes and companionship at the Stroke Comeback Center in Vienna, Virginia.

Joanie is survived by her husband, Michael and her sons John and Joseph of Falls Church, VA, her sisters, Kathleen Normyle of Hilton Head Island, Eileen Gordon (Hugh) of Atlanta and Mary Ward (George) of Hilton Head. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Phillip Catholic Church, Falls Church, VA on Friday, January 5th at 11:00. A private inurnment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery in Potomac, MD.

Donations in Joanie’s honor may be made to the Stroke Comeback Center Vienna, VA
