Joe Allen Childress

Of Vienna, Va., was born on July 26, 1925, in Le Feria, Texas and passed away at the age of 88 on January 11, 2014. Son of the late Otis and Jenny Childress, Joe spent most of his childhood in Sharon, TN, until the age of 17 when he joined the United States Marine Corps. His service during World War II in the South Pacific was one of his proudest accomplishments. Following the war, he continued his military career for over 20 years, working in communications and public affairs. Once retired from the Marine Corps, his expertise in communications formed the basis of another long and successful career in association management. Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Opal, whom he adored. He is also survived by his children, Carla Austin (John), Carmen Bishop (Greg), Joe Allen childress, Jr., and grandchildren, Caroline, Megan, Matthew, Taylor and Joe Allen III. Interment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
