John Mohanco
February 19, 1945 ~ November 4, 2021
John Mohanco (February 19, 1945 - November 4, 2021) was a loving son, loyal and supportive husband, and a devoted father. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Wilkes University John served for the US Army first in Germany and then in Vietnam. He later enlisted in the reserves and ended his Army career at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania where he received a master’s degree in International Relations, and pursued a doctorate in the subject, before leaving to join the US Foreign Service. In that position he represented the United States in many places, including Mexico, Indonesia, Panama and Ukraine, with pride and loyalty, working on issues such as disarmament and non-proliferation in the space.
John was a voracious reader and began his every morning with the Washington Post. His take on the political events was always clear and unbiased, and he always deeply cared for the best interest of his country.
John was loved by many for his big and warm heart. He always saw best in people who surrounded him and supported them with a kind word and advice. His values were simple: serve your country with honor, love your family, cherish your friends, read, travel, and see the world and have good time.
John is loved and greatly missed by his family and friends.

Dearest Dad – I love you so much. I know you’re my guardian angel watching from above. I’m surrounded by memories of you and constantly get signs showing me you’re present. Thank you for being a hard-working, dedicated and supportive dad. The past few years have been incredibly challenging and you were always there to guide me through the hard times. I miss you and know you’ll always protect me. ILY.
