September 18, 1935 ~ November 8, 2023

Resided in: Culpeper, Virginia

John Thomas Fletcher, age 88, of Culpeper, Virginia passed away on
Wednesday, November 8, 2023. He will be greatly missed! John was a kind,
gentle and sweet family man loved by so many! He could talk to anybody at
anytime and talk forever! He loved his family and friends more than they ever
knew. The last 10 years have not been so kind to John, as he battled dementia
hard! He knew something was very wrong and he was not happy about it. Now
he has his mind back and is in Heaven talking up a storm with all that went
before him.
John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, JoAnn Marie Fletcher; daughter,
Bonnie Lynn Morgan (Darryl); Son, John Thomas Fletcher, Jr. (Linda);
grandchildren Jennifer Ward (Matthew), Kevin Morgan (Katrina), Courtney
Fletcher, Colton Fletcher (Emily); 3 great grandchildren… Layla, Allan, Waylon
and a 4th due to arrive in just a few months! John was also well known as
“Granddaddy”! He genuinely loved the name and the children that addressed
him by it!
John loved black FORD cars, baseball, football and GOLF! He always drove a
black Ford and from stories that have been told, he drove them fast and furious,
at least until there was a wife and kids in the picture! He played baseball and
football growing up and throughout school. He started golfing later in life, but
loved it from the start and didn’t look back. He made many friends in his golf
years and in retirement he golfed quite a bit in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with
is brother Danny and friends and in Williamsburg, Virginia with all his golfing
buddies.
John was born and raised in Fairfax County, Virginia. He attended Fairfax High
School and worked for Fairfax County for 30 years. He was the Superintendent
of Solid Waste when he retired in 1985. He has been enjoying retirement from
Fairfax County for 38 years… truly amazing!
John’s parents, Daniel Moffett Fletcher & Elsie May Fletcher had 5 children…
Dorothy, Ruth, Daniel, John and Carl. Carl is John’s only surviving sibling. John
is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his lifelong best
friend Jim Birch (Lina).
Services for John will be held at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna, Virginia
on Wednesday, November 15th. There will be a viewing from 11am – 1pm
followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1pm. John will be laid to rest at
National Memorial Park after the Celebration of Life Service. Fairfax County’s
finest will be paving the way to the Park just as John would want it!
