Jonathan Andrew Berzan
August 6, 1956 ~ May 25, 2014
On May 25, 2014 Jonathan Berzan died at Inova Fairfax Hospital while he waited for a re-transplant of the donor heart he received on May 10. Unfortunately the donor heart never became viable and functioning and time ran out waiting for a replacement. Born with a congenital heart disease that became progressively worse over time, Jonathan enjoyed sports, was an avid reader, loved traveling and experiencing cultures around the world, relaxing on the beach and spending time with friends and family.
Jonathan earned his undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Oneonta and an MBA in Finance at the George Washington University. Jonathan was employed by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) in the finance department for 25 years and most recently held a finance position with The Nature Conservancy.
Jonathan's wife Jane and his brother Jeff invite you to join them in a celebration of Jonathan's life on June 14, at 2 pm at Money & King Funeral Home. The memorial service will be followed by an informal reception and buffet dinner at Jane & Jonathan's home in Falls Church, VA.
Respecting Jonathan's preference as an overall casual person, attire for the service and reception is summertime casual/comfortable.

We miss Jonathan terribly and will for a long time. He was way too young to have gone through what he faced the last two weeks of his life. We will always remember his courage but most importantly his smile every time he greeted us … plain and simple, he was a “good guy.” Our thoughts and love are with Jane and Jeff.
In the words of Maya Angelou “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Jonathan made everyone feel special. He was a warm gentle person who always made you feel comfortable and relaxed. We will miss him greatly with his NY sense of humor. Our hearts go out to Jane and Jeff at this time of loss.
Jane – Jonathan helped make you who you are, which is fabulous, and so he lives on in you and all you do. May God bless you through this time of sadness and grief.

Jane, So stalwart, resolute and determined to get better and get on with the business of living, Jonathan’s courage was phenomenal! We were just putting the baseball plan into action – go METS! I will have a beer for you! Jonathan, a true gentleman, you will be sorely missed. I loved having you as my dear friend.
Ive known Jon since college. He will be so missed for his class straight forwardness and decency. He was always a great friend who one could count on.There arent many people who come along and touch you like Jon. We are all better people for knowing him . He will be deeply missed by all those who came in contact with him.
Jonathan was a kind person with a great sense of humor. I enjoyed working with him. He made a great impression with folks at TNC in the short time he was there. He will be missed.
I spent about the last 15 years working with Jonathan at HHMI and will always remember him for his calm demeanor and level-headed approach to issues that arose. Deeply saddened by the news of his passing, I hope that memories of him help his family cope during this difficult time.

I remember Jonathan well, as I helped to “onboard” him to his new position with TNC. He was a very gentle, private person. I was very fortunate to see him prior to his transplant. I first met Jonathan when visiting DC in 1979 when deciding where to attend law school. During the 1980’s JB was part of our circle of friends who would routinely be present at various parties in the Arlington VA area. Norma Jean and I were unaware that JB had any serious health issues until recently. JB was always upbeat and interesting to talk to. JB we will miss you!! Stuart and Norma Jean

Dear Jane, I just found out about Jon’s passing today. I am shocked and very saddened. We go back to high school and college together. We had some great times together and I cherish our friendship and the memories. While we lost touch in later years, I have thought about Jon many times over the years.
