Joseph F. Daly Jr

On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Joseph (Joe) Daly died peacefully at home. Beloved husband of more than 60 years to Marcellyn Daly; loving father of Kim, Joe 3rd, Suzanne (Tom), Jim (Meghan), and Colleen (Duke), devoted grandfather to Liz, Megan, Matthew, Rachel, Keara, Jessica, Emma, Kaitlyn, Jamison, Jordan, Cassandra and Madelyn and caring great-grandfather to Cole, Serenity, Phoenix, Gareth, Honesty, Eternity, and Charity.

Joe was born in New York City, son of Joe, Sr, and Betty on May 5, 1940. He received a degree in engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1961. Upon graduating he moved to Kentucky to work for the Girdler Corporation; where he met and married the love of his life, Marcellyn. A few years later he moved his growing family to Maryland, years later to Pennsylvania, and finally to Virginia in 1987. Throughout his career he worked as an engineer for the Department of Defense, and the Department of Energy. He worked on submarines, coal liquefaction, nuclear energy, and numerous other projects; and he was awarded a couple of patents along the way. He retired from the Federal Government in 2005 after a 38-year career. When he was not at work, he spent time supporting his five children. Countless weekends were spent poolside; as a starter, team manager, and cheering on his children and grandchildren. You could always hear his booming voice at every swim meet he attended.
He has been a member of St. Marks Catholic Church since moving to Virginia, and enjoyed participating in the M&M’s group there.

The viewing will be held on Thursday, April 18th from 6-8 pm at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave. W, Vienna, VA. Funeral Services will be held on April 19th at 11 am at St Marks Catholic Church, 9970 Vale Rd, Vienna, VA. He loved his Irish heritage, so please feel free to sport your green as opposed to traditional black, or just add a spot of green to honor, and celebrate his life. The family asks for any donations to go to Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Joseph Daly (www.alz.org).
