Joseph John Signorelli
October 27, 1937 ~ December 17, 2022
Joseph John Signorelli (known by all as "Joe" or "Big Joe"), 85, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2022, with his son, Joe, and daughter-in-law, Tammy, by his side.
Born on October 27, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Salvatore (Charlie) and Giovanna (Jennie) Signorelli who immigrated from Sicily, Italy, to New York.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Joe and his family lived in a predominantly Italian neighborhood and kept many of the old world traditions alive. He graduated from Bedford Stuyvesant High School where he was the captain of the Varsity Handball Team. Joe learned to play handball at a young age and became good enough to win several local and state championships. He also loved to bowl and was part of many teams throughout the years. He later took up tennis and then racquetball.
Joe enlisted in the Air Force at age 18. He loved his Air Force life and the people he worked with and met while on various assignments. His first assignment was at a recruiting station in Queens, NY. Joe then married his wife, Renee, on April 5, 1959. Then came tours in Watertown, NY, Newfoundland, Canada (where his son Joe was born), Turkey, Viet Nam, Thailand and Washington, DC. He retired from the Air Force at Bolling Air Force Base in 1976 after more than 20 years of service. He then entered into a second career with various financial institutions.
After Joe and Renee both retired, they settled into a community in Lake Ridge, VA, and enjoyed their retirement years together. With Renee's sister, Phyllis, living next door, Joe often referred to her and Renee as his "2 wives" as they enjoyed doing many things together. Joe loved to travel, play poker, go on cruises, go to casinos, eat good food and drink good wine.
Joe was preceded in death by Renee Signorelli (wife), Salvatore Signorelli (father), Giovanna Signorelli (mother), Gerry Signorelli (sister), Sal Signorelli (brother) and Jean Marie Fowler (niece). He is survived by Joe & Tammy Signorelli (son/daughter-in-law), Mary Alison Signorelli (niece), Thomas Fletcher (grandson) and great-nephews Zach Lang, James Fowler and Christopher Fowler.
Relatives and friends are invited to Joe’s Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W.
