Juanita "Puggy" Buhl Cooper
September 24, 1931 ~ August 8, 2022
Juanita “Puggy” Buhl Cooper passed peacefully at home on August 8, 2022. Pug was born in 1931 at home in Rockingham County, Virginia on the property of Endless Caverns (which her father wired for electricity). She was one of five children of the late Walter and Mary Buhl. Walt moved the family to Vienna in 1940.
Pug graduated Fairfax High School (site of Paul VI) in 1948 on a Friday and started work at the Pentagon that next Monday. Carpooling to work is where she met her husband, James C. Cooper. They were married for 56 years.
After Jim’s stint in the Air Force took them around the United States and Canada, the Coopers settled back in Vienna. They were original homeowners in the Dunn Loring Woods subdivision where they raised their children, Beth and James C. Cooper II (Pat Cooper).
When her children were in high school, Juanita started working as a secretary for Fairfax County Public Schools. She eventually followed a beloved principal to Lake Anne Elementary in Reston where she was for 21 years. While in Reston she was a much loved and cherished member of the faculty and the community, winning the “Best in Reston” award in 1995
After retirement, she spent a lot of time showering love on her 2 grandchildren, James C. Cooper III (Kimberly Cooper) and Laura Culver (Jon Culver). She recently became a great grandmother to Teagan and Orion Cooper.
A voracious reader, Juanita was known to read a book a day and the Washington Post from cover to cover. She loved milk chocolate and a good ‘ole Hershey Kiss was her favorite!
One of the greatest ways you could honor Juanita, would be to purchase classroom supplies for any teacher. Some teachers have a wish list posted on Amazon, others use the non-profit site DonorsChoose.org or stop by any school in your neighborhood and ask what they need. Juanita knew first hand how much personal money teachers spend each year to provide a quality and special learning environment for their students.
Friends and relatives may call at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave, W, Vienna, VA on Wednesday, August 10th from 5-8pm. The funeral will be at Money and King on Thursday, August 11th at 10 am with interment immediately following at National Memorial Park.

Aunt Puggy you are missed I have such good memories of you and uncle Jim ??
Mrs. Cooper was one of the first people I met in Reston. She was always kind, had a warm smile and made me feel welcome at Lake Anne Elementary. I would walk to the school toward the end of the day to visit my mother-in-law. I always loved stopping in the office to see Mrs. Cooper and she loved seeing my son., who is now almost 30. She also took some
Pictures at my wedding and hers were some of my favorites of that day. I have kept in touch with her all these years and she continued to be a bright spot in my life. I will miss her. Sending her family lots of love.
