Passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at her residence in McLean, VA. She was born on April 2, 1943 in Hobbs, NM to Robert Karnan and Jane Shapter. She graduated from Bayside High School in New York in 1960. She did her undergraduate work at Guilford College graduating in 1963. She received a Master’s degree from Marymount University in 1989. Karen was a music teacher and taught at several private schools in the Washington, DC area throughout her career. She also taught many students privately and performed as a children’s musician and led a performing recorder group for several years. She married her husband, Eric S. Spector, in Plandome, NY on September 4, 1965. She is survived by her son, David A. Spector (Angela) and her grandchildren, Matthew, Sara and Jessica. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eric S. Spector in 2016 and her son, Paul A. Spector in 2009. A memorial service will be held at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave., West, Vienna, VA on Sunday, March 5 at 2:00 PM.
