Katharine Miser Day, 93, of McLean, VA, died April 23, 2014.
Katharine was born to the late Carrie Roche and Frank Henry Miser, March 31, 1921, in Amsterdam, Ohio. She was raised in Steubenville, OH and received a BS in Education from Ohio University in 1942. She married the late George Van Buren Day in July 1952. They lived in Pittsburgh, PA for several years before moving to Palos Verdes Estates, CA and Westport CT, and finally settling in McLean VA in 1977.
While living in Pittsburgh, Katharine was a member of the Shadyside Hospital Auxiliary Board, and a member of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church.
Katharine was an active member of Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, and the McLean Postcomers Club. With her husband, George, she enjoyed their seasonal membership with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. She loved to play bridge, to travel and to entertain.
Katharine is survived by two children: Holly Gochnour(Mark) of Germantown MD and Alison Neu ({Paul) of Mercerville, NJ. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Amy, Emily (fianc Michael Mensch) and Kevin Gochnour, and David (Kristen) and Laura Neu, as well as her sisters Helen Griffith and Patricia Fails, many nieces and nephews.
We would like to express our eternal gratitude to her caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living and VITAS Hospice during her final days.
Family and friends are invited to Mrs. Day's Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Avenue, Vienna, VA on Thursday, May 1 from 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, 1724 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA 22101 on Friday, May 2 at 11:00. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service. Interment National Memorial Park.
