Kenneth "Ken" A. Lawrence, 84, of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away, Saturday, De-cember 17, 2016 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. A commemorative service for friends and family will be held at 1:00 am, Tuesday, December 27 at the Tower Club, Ty-sons Corner, Virginia . In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army and/or the American Lung Association would be appreciated.

Ken was born May 4, 1932 in Niagara Falls, New York to Edgar and Alice Lawrence. He graduated from Cornell University in 1954 and served as a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers at Ft, Belvoir, VA. On June 14, 1958 he married the former Mary Joyce Davis. Ken was employed as a research scientists/project manager for such companies as Psychological Research Associates, EDEX, and Raytheon, prior to moving into television production for Logos. Subsequently, he joined the Public Sector and was employed at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Veterans Admini-stration and the IRS. He finalized his career by serving as the Planning Commis-sioner for Providence District in Fairfax County. Some of the highlights of his career include participation in the design of the Saturn V, creating a liquid oxygen demon-stration system for the Smithsonian, and working on Public Serve Announcements with individuals such as former Redskins Sonny Jurgensen, and Billy Kilmer, and William F. Buckley. The highlight of Ken's career was his position as Planning Commissioner. His work significantly shaped the development of Tysons and the Mosaic District, and he viewed this position as his service to the community. Outside of work, Ken was an avid MG enthusiast, a fan of English soccer and Grand Prix racing, a keen photographer, globe-trotter and adjunct professor at Catholic Univer-sity. His family, wife, children, and grandchildren, were most beloved by him.

Ken is survived by his wife (Mary) Joyce of Fairfax, VA; his daughter, Lesley Law-rence of Berryville, VA; two sons, Alan Lawrence of Oakton, VA; Richard Lawrence and his wife Angela of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Taylor, Jessica and Erik Lawrence; his sister, Sandy Tomalty of Potsdam, New York and several nieces and nephews.
