Tim and Family: I want to pass along my sincerest sympathies. I am deeply sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with all of you. I’m available if you need anything. With love and hope, I will be praying for grace to be bestowed on your family. Your friend, Ray
Keith and I prayed for you, Shirley, and for Ken every day once we were aware of his illness. We are so sorry for his loss. He was a faithful servant to the end, and it has been a real privilege to see the two of you in church together from our vantage point in the choir loft all of these years. He will be missed by your church family very much. Our prayers continue for you and your family at this time.
Shirley and family: It has been a privilege to watch the courage and love in your family. We are just crushed to say goodbye so soon. Please know how much we love you and that we are praying God will comfort you. Love Kathe (and Pete)
Shirley and family, We share in your grief at this most difficult time. Ken was an inspiration to all of us on how to live a faithful life and showed us how to truly fight the good fight with grace and dignity. Our church has lost a loving and faithful servant. We count ourselves blessed to have known Ken. We lift you up in prayer and will continue to do so in the coming weeks. May you feel God’s ever present love and may you find comfort in Ken’s peace. Love, Karen and John Propheter

Dear Shirley and Bass Family, Ken’s death is a terrible loss to our church, our community and most of all to those who loved him so much. These past years of his illness have been devastating to all of you and now his death has caused even greater pain for you. I will always remember Ken as a formidable but positive presence who added immeasurably to the life of our church community. In his professional life, he gave a lasting legacy that has helped and will continue to have an impact on many, many people. He did not have as many years as we wished but he made the most of the time he had. I know his family meant everything to him and your love and devotion sustained him through the dark days of his illness. Our deepest sympathies to all of you. Rick and Leah Schroeder
Our deepest sympathy to Ken’s family from the Jamestowne Society, where he served faithly on the Council and as Attorney General. He will be missed. Carter Furr, Governor
To the family of Professor Bass, While I did not know Professor Bass for long, I am honored to have been in his class. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Rev. 14:13 – Blessed are those who die in the Lord. They will rest from their labor, and their deeds will follow them. I trust that God will give you all the strength to go through these tough times.
As a descendant of Henry Fleete, a Burgess from Lancaster County, Virginia, who died in 1660/61, Ken Bass joined the Jamestowne Society. During his years as a member, he served in many capacities including webmaster of the original Jamestowne Society website, representing the Society at various functions, and as Attorney General for the Society. His contributions of time, energy and effort to the Society are greatly appreciated, and he will be missed. — Susan Godman Rager Attorney General, Jamestowne Society
