Lenny, as we all called him, was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He attended Raritan High School in Hazlet, New Jersey through his sophomore year where he played varsity football, wrestling and basketball. In 1981, he transferred his talents over to James Madison High School and became a full bled Warhawk and soared in football, starting two-ways on Varsity and wrestling his way to States. All his commitment, dedication and determination lead him to earn a full scholarship at N.C. State University when he became a part of the Wolfpack family. He played 1983-1988. After Graduating with a business degree, he started a beautiful family while traveling through a journey which led him to find his way back home JMHS, earning his masters Degree, becoming a Special Education Teacher and Head football Coach. A road that led him to his dream career in which he could make a difference in lives, share his passion, while giving back to people in a community that made him strong. In his spare time he loved spending time with his family, fishing and just chilling out on his boat all day.
Lenny was an amazing son to Idith and the late Edward Schultz 111. A Loving Father to Benjamin and Holly Schultz. Beloved husband to Charissa and her beautiful daughters Addisan, Roberta and Michala. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family!!!!
I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn’t know Lenny well but my memory of him is during a Wexford Day picnic when he was about 18 and he devised a clever game to get the little kids to clean up the trash. I thought he was such an amazing young man. My prayers are with you during these terrible days.
A BRAVE SOLE WHO WILL BE GREATLY MISSED. A LEADER WITH EVERY STEP HE TOOK. RIP
Please accept our deepest sympathies. We are just devastated by his loss. Our prayers go to his family who carry the greatest pain. Lenny was an angel among us. He guided our son through many challenges in high school and on to college and beyond. He never gave up or lost touch. He had a busy life but always made time to reach out to those he cared for. His devotion to his friends, family and students was remarkable. He is probably looking down on all of this adoration with surprise. He seemed to be unaware of how many people he touched with his kindness. We are grateful to have known him.
Love and prayers to you, Idith, and your Family. Sincerely, NAncy Richardson Obermeyer
Lenny was truly one of the good guys – always positive always looking for ways to help. We will miss him sorely.
Going back 35 years, even though we were competitors Lenny was very respectful and super nice gentlemen! It sounds like Lenny made a positive impact on the Community! Rest In Peace Lenny!

I didn’t know Mr. Schultz personally but heard this tragic story in the news and just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
I taught at Madison and was a colleague of Lenny for 15 years. He was a true gentleman and a “gentle giant.” Upbeat and friendly with his co-workers, Lenny always had time to collaborate with others in addressing the needs of his students. On the football field he made sure that his players had fun as he built them into young men of character. Lenny leaves a great legacy in the many young lives that he touched. He will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, Char…so very, very sorry for your loss of Lenny. May you find comfort in knowing so many care for you.â¤ï¸ðŸ™ðŸ»ðŸ™ðŸ»ðŸ™ðŸ»
Words fail me at a time like this, but be assured you and all the family and friends are in my prayers.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Schultz family at this terribly difficult time. Sincerely, John Brosnahan
My thoughts are with you and your family, Idith, at this difficult time. May God bless you and may Lenny RIP. Freda Burner
Charissa, Mrs. Schultz and the entire Schultz family, you are in my constant thoughts and prayers. Lenny was loved by all who were lucky enough to know him. He will be greatly missed. May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead.
Dear Edith and the entire Leonard Schultz Family, our hearts just broke the day we got the news. Your family welcomed us to Epiphany UMC over 20 years ago – through our days at Epiphany Preschool, Summer Bible Camp, and Sunday School – with joy. Then, years later, we were also blessed to have Lenny as a History teacher too! It was crystal clear to us at Back-To-School night how much Lenny truly cared for every student; we can assure you that Lenny’s legacy will never be forgotten. Edith may you and the entire Leonard Schultz Family find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence and in knowing that Lenny was a life well-lived. Our sincere condolences, Peter, Robyn, Jennifer & Kimberly
Dear Miss Idith and Family, Patrick and I were so sad to hear about Lenny’s passing. Patrick played freshman football for Lenny and that was one of the best memories Patrick has of high school. Lenny was the best coach a boy could ever have. He lived and taught by example. He took impressionable young men and showed them how to be humble, strong, and gentlemen. Lenny taught them a work ethic that will stay with them for life. I will always be grateful for that. I also had the privilege of working with him at Madison for 11 years. His kindness and patience towards students was unsurpassed. He never tired of helping them and supporting everyone. I have had people come to me since hearing of Lenny’s passing to express their condolences and share a kind story about how Lenny was always there for their child while they were at Madison. He will be greatly missed. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Fondly, Syd & Patrick Murphy
I’m am so sorry for your loss. Lenny was one of the nicest and most kind hearted teachers at Madison, as well as an amazing mentor and coach for our students. It was an honor to know him. Thinking of you and your family during this tough time.
We are so very sorry for your loss, in our family Lenny helped our boys not just with Football and Wrestling, but with life issues outside of sports.
Please accept my deepest condolences. I worked with Lenny during my first few years teaching and, although I left Madison 3 years ago, I remember him fondly literally every time I see a high school football game, regardless of what school is playing. He was a wonderful, warm man and made Madison a wonderful place to work. I was lucky to have known him; I can’t express how very sorry I am for your loss.
I am so sorry for your loss. I came to know Coach Shultz first as teacher and then as a coach. He saw the best in my boys in all situations. He was firm but encouraging in multiple situations. After my husband died, he kept a special eye on my boys and offered assistance to them/me many times. That level of compassion and kindness don’t come along often. I will always hold him up as a role model for the kind of character we should all aspire to.
Our hearts ache for you and your family during this difficult time but know that Lenny continues to spread joy and happiness with his heavenly family. Hugs to you and your children.
I met Lenny when he was coaching wrestling and I was refereeing. He was always great to talk to in the brief moments you have at tournaments. My strongest memory of Lenny is when I was intentionally hit by a tableworker at a tournament. The hit stunned me and left me kneeling on the mat seeing stars. Lenny chased the kid down who had run out of the gym. We talked about it every time we saw each other after that. In my eyes, Lenny was about doing the right thing. He was mad at the kid for making the bad choice but was more interested in him getting the help he needed to put him on a better path.
I didn’t really know Lenny, but knew that it was him, from the picture, before they even said his name, on the news last weekend. It broke my heart to see it, and hear the terrible news. The entire Schultz family is in my thoughts and prayers.
We love the Schultz family and will be praying for your strength in the Lord. We loved Coach Schultz, but God Loved him more. Everyone will continually be in our hearts and prayers. ❤️❤️
Lenny was always fun and caring. As a babysitter back in Jersey I remember he and his brother Ed wrestled and horse-played always with a winning attitude and always had fun. He grew into a loving and caring man carried that attitude to his work, very clearly. We are all deeply saddened by this. God bless all of you.
Idith, Christine, and entire family – We all love you and are holding you up in prayer forever in this heartbreaking sorrow! – Jody Nelson, JMHS math faculty ’82-’88, AND DOZENS & DOZENS of additional faculty and staff members over many decades!
Our family knew and loved Lenny when our sons, Jamie and John, were good friends and played football with Lenny at Madison. We always enjoyed it when he would visit and we realized what a kind and friendly person he was. I knew Idith and loved it when we’d meet in the Vienna Safeway and talk about our boys. Our hearts, love, and prayers go out to the whole family. Lenny will be loved and missed by many.
Holly and Ben, We are so very sorry about the loss of your dad. Our family is praying for you during this difficult time.
Thoughts and prayers to the Schultz family and the whole Warhawk Nation. Coach Schultz was like a second father to my son offering him advice and making sure he stayed on the right path. He would say Cayden reminded him of himself when he was younger and understood underneath his shell was a good kid with a super big heart. Words can not describe how much that meant to me and my son but I guess God needed another angel. Cayden will forever push harder in everything he does as a tribute to Coach, a man who meant the world to him.
I shall never forget how passionate Lenny was to Sean when he went to Madison High School. Sean is autistic and Mr. Schultz took him under his wings and included him in the Friday night football games as the “mascot”. I know he made a big difference in the Special Education Program. Thank you so very much for the time Sean had with you. With love to the family…….
It still seems surreal. Lenny made such a difference in my sons wrestling career at Madison. When I was in charge Booster apparel, he was always there to help me lug the heavy boxes. We enjoyed many long talks and grew to know him as a great friend. Our hearts are so heavy and may God heal Albert quickly. When my son and husband get back on US soil, we will surely see Albert! God speed lenny. You are loved.
We did not know Lenny, but we now know of him. He made a difference in this world which will always be the highest accomplishment you can achieve in life. We know he will be missed and believe his influence he had in others will continue to help make our world a better place.
It was an honor to coach Len in high school football at Raritan HS. He was a hard working and talented football player and a good person to be around. The coaching staff and players profited from his leadership. Rest in peace.
