Lina M. Shoobridge

August 30, 1957 ~ October 5, 2010
Lina Shoobridge, of Arlington, Va., died at her residence with her family by her side. Loving mother of Elana and George Jobson-Oliver, caring and thoughtful daughter of Alfred and Toula Shoobridge, sister of Michael (Elaine) Shoobridge and Angela (Stuart) Wandrag. She is also survived by 2 nieces, 1 nephew, Wheeler Love, Tim Nelson and many good friends. Lina was an effervescent character with love of life, she was a breath of fresh air. She had a successful career with the World Bank and IMF, spanning 28 years, a talented and enthusiastic performer with the British Embassy Players since 1979, loved recording her life experiences in verse and a lifetime fan of Rod Stewart. Lina's endless courage and spirit inspired everyone she met, especially during her battle against cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to www.cholangiocarcinoma.org or Capital Hospice of Arlington.

Rest in peace Lina, remembering the great nights we enjoyed in DC in the eighties.
I worked with Lina at the World Bank in the 1980’s when she was barely out of high school. She was always a loveable “character”! There was never a dull moment when she was around. I will always have pleasant memories of Lina and her adventures! My heartfelt sympathy is extended to her family and friends.
Great memories with a great lady!!
Lina was an extremely generous, fun loving and thoughtful person. We were so touched with the beautiful clothes she knitted for our children. Our deepest sympathy to her family during this difficult time.Rest in peace Lina.
I met Lina in the late 1970’s and fell in love. We dated on and off for a few years before drifting apart. She was always full of life and never a dull moment. I found her on Facebook a few months ago and we renewed our friendship. Talked on the phone a few times and was planning to go by and see her. I feel so sad that I missed the opportunity to see her again but I’m grateful that we were able to be in touch with each other after all these years. Rest in peace Lina. You will be missed by many and I will carry the memories of you with me for the rest of my life. Still loving you. Joe
Gary and I met Lina at the British Embassy Players, many many years ago – we had seen her father perform so were not surprised to see Lina following in her father’s footsteps with her own wonderful acting, love of theatre and enthusiasm. We were so happy to have the chance to visit her earlier this year; she was coping so well with her illness and optimistic that she was winning. We know she will be sorely missed; our condolences to her family.
I knew Lina at the IMF, and my son Zachary Randall is on the football team with her son George. We wanted to extend heartfelt sympathy and support to her family. Zachary was particularly touched and a 14 year old reaching out is a powerful thing. Lina was always a treasure to be around and will be sorely missed.
Lina, I really, really hoped you were going to lick this awful disease. And even when we talked for one last time months ago, you were in good spirits. I will miss you, one of my very first friends at the World Bank since 1975. May you rest in peace and watch over your loved ones. Letty
Lina had a love of life beyond belief. Although I did not know Lina as well as others, she always had time to chat when we were at the same functions. I last saw Lina at the fundraiser the Players put on for her benefit, and marveled at how, even at that time, she was confident that she was going to win her fight with cancer. I’ll miss her.
I used to know Lina many years ago at school and when we left before she went to America I have been trying to track her down as we were in touch via friends reunited about nine years ago,we lost touch and I changed emailaddress I am so saddened to read this tragic news about you Lina But I will treasure our mad Rod Stewart days and concerts together our first being at the Rainbow and we were so excited as we both fancied the pants off him!! Imsosorry I did not get in touch sooner, My thoughts are with your family and friends Kim xxx
I was surprised to come across this. I knew Lina from the British Embassy Players. I was a child and my parents and grandmother were in the orchestra. I remember her from the Music Hall and Pantomime shows. Spinning Jenny! She was so full of life and so much joy back then. I can’t imagine her any other way. So sorry to hear of her passing. Much love and prayers to her family and friends.
