August 2, 1933 ~ January 8, 2023
Lois Allene Herpy Benedict, age, 89, of Vienna, VA, formerly of West Brandywine, PA, and Strafford, PA, passed away on January 8, 2023.
Born and raised in Utica, NY, Lois was the loving daughter of Lois Sturges Herpy and D. Walter Herpy. Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Robert V. Benedict. She is survived by her four daughters - Susan B. Navia (Manuel), Barbara B. Kent (David), Sandra L.B. Cappiello (Samuel), and Deborah J. Benedict (Jason). Lois was the loving grandmother of six granddaughters, six grandsons, and a great-grandson. A second great-grandson is expected in February 2023. Lois is also survived by her brother, David W. Herpy, Jr. (Pauline).
Prior to becoming a full-time homemaker, Lois earned a degree in business administration from Skidmore College. Lois and her husband Bob raised their children in PA, first in King of Prussia and later Strafford, PA. Lois was an active member of Wayne Presbyterian Church for many years, a member of American Association of University Women (AAUW) and, with her husband, an avid bridge player. Lois was a loving and supportive Mother, leading Girl Scout troops and teaching Sunday School, helping with homework, and driving carpools. Lois was also devoted to her extended family and many friends whom she enjoyed hosting for dinner parties and for visits to a summer vacation cottage on White Lake in Woodgate, NY. Lois and Bob were avid world travelers. They traveled extensively throughout the U.S., in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, and visited countries in Africa and the Middle East. During their later years Lois and Bob enjoyed cruising with the extended family. Lois was a loyal Philadelphia sports fan.
The family would like to recognize and extend heartfelt thanks to Lois' wonderful caregivers, Renee Chery, WanLing Huang, and Ying Wu. Their loving and dedicated care was led and coordinated by daughter and geriatric nurse, Barbara Kent. Barbara and David Kent expanded and opened their home to Lois so she could live with them in her final years, allowing Lois to be involved in all kinds of family activities and celebrations and to be surrounded by the love of her family.
The family will host a Celebration of Life at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 E. Lancaster Ave, Wayne, PA 19087, later in the year.

Dear Sandy,
Thank you so much for tracking me down. My email now is welthiefitz@gmail.com. And hello to Barbara, Sandy and Deborah too. I have so many warm memories of all of you, and it spanned so many years. The first time I came to your house, Debby, you were in a high chair! I met you Mom at AAUW, a women’s association, very educational, but wonderfully social, especially for someone new in town like me. And my first time there as soon as the program finished, Lois came over and introduced herself and a lifetime friendship was born. We played bridge, had rotating dinners with other friends, and in later years our shopping trips to the world of discount stores were historical. Always including lunch, of course. Your Mom and Dad supported me, with no questions in my difficult years, and when Walt and I found each other in the late 1990’s, we were able to share share some wonderful lunches together, with the number one topic being catching up with our families.
Walt and I will be there on Saturday. And thank you again for finding us
With love,
Welthie
