Resided in: Arlington, Virginia

Lois was born on October 11, 1941, in Perth, Ontario, Canada, to Beatrice and Henry Edgar Chaplin. She was the youngest of three children: Donna Robertson, who preceded her in death, and Alan Chaplin. Lois came to the United States in 1964, where she worked for the Canadian Defence Liaison Staff. In that same year, Lois met and became life-long friends with the McCann family, who introduced her to Robert (Bob) Gilroy. Lois and Bob were married in 1966, and raised their family in Arlington, VA. They were happily married until Bob’s death in 1992.

Lois retired from Arlington County in 2004, where she worked for many years as a Court Specialist in Arlington Circuit Court Judges’ Chambers. In retirement, she was a devoted grandmother and volunteered for the Virginia Hospital Center Auxiliary.

Lois enjoyed ice skating, swimming, bowling, and golf. In later years, she loved taking long walks in her neighborhood with her dog Lady, and chatting with friends and neighbors. She was known for making special birthday cakes, fabulous holiday dinners, and other sweet treats.

Lois died peacefully on September 12, 2023, with family by her side. Lois goes in grace to join her husband Bob and her beloved son, Christopher John Carroll Gilroy (1972 – 2016). She is survived by her daughter Kimberley Baxter, son-in-law Brent Baxter, and three grandchildren Nathaniel, Casey, and Charlotte; her brother Alan Chaplin and sister-in-law Shirley Chaplin; numerous nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends.
