Lucille Ryan
June 3, 1932 ~ March 9, 2016
Lucille Altieri Ryan (83)
Lucille "Tucka" Altieri Ryan passed away on March 9, 2016 at the age of 83 after a long battle with lung cancer. She was a beloved mother, a dedicated wife, and a devoted friend to many.
Lucille was born in North Plainfield, New Jersey on June 3, 1932 to Frank and Irene Altieri. She grew up in the Bronx with her siblings Frank, Alice and Tom (dec.). After graduating from Hunter College in 1953, she worked as a teacher for several years. On July 28, 1956, Lucille married Thomas Ryan, who lived in the same neighborhood in the Bronx and who also attended St. Brendan's Catholic Church. Tom worked as a CIA operations officer and they were posted to Japan, Thailand, Brazil, Poland and Australia. Together they had many adventures around the world and raised five children.
When Lucille was a young girl in a crib, she tried to mimic the sound of a clock by saying "Tuck-a, Tuck-a." It became her life-long nickname and Tom and her close family and friends called her Tucka.
Lucille was a realtor for more than 30 years in the Northern Virginia area and helped many families find the perfect home. She was an energetic woman who always had time to volunteer at her kids' schools or help a friend. Lucille was actively involved in many aspects of the community participating in Garden Club, Book Club, and Bridge Club, and volunteering every week at Fairfax Hospital for 12 years.
Lucille is survived by her husband Tom and their children and their spouses: Teri (Doug) Vickery, Tim (Dawn, dec.) Ryan, Mike (Kathleen) Ryan, Sheila (Mike) Carney and Maureen (Chris) Berry, and her eight beloved grandchildren: Sam (Casey) Shuptrine, Jessie Ryan, Kevin Carney, Taylor Ryan, Aidan Carney, Nolan Carney, Aysha Berry, and Reyna Berry.
Family and friends are invited to Lucille's Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Sunday, March 20 from 2-5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 21 at 1:30 PM. Interment at a later date. Online condolences and fond memories may be offered to the family at: www.moneyandking.com

Lucille was always a friend to everyone who met her, and as a Bonas alumni wife we had lots in common. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Heartfelt condolences to Tom and the whole Ryan family on the passing of Lucille. Friends for about 35 years we best remember her energy, sense of humor and obvious love and affection for all her family. We will miss her!
We are very good friends of Alice’s and wish to extend our sincere condolences..
I had met Lucille through vollunteering for the Inova Auxillary at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. I always admired how even through her illness she managed to come and continue to vollunteer when she was able. I will greatly miss her presence and contribution to the hospital and offer my condolences.
Al and I want to sent our condolences to you Tom and your family, when we heard the news about Lucille. She was a great person, so much fun to be around, always easy to talk with, and she made you feel that you were important when you were together. Lucille is home with the Lord, but she will always be at home in your family/friends hearts. Lucille made the world of being a Parkinson Caregiver so easy, and she gave other caregivers such good advise. Lucille we love you!!!!
Lucille was the first person to visit me the morning my son, David Coe Lanpher, was born at Woden Valley Hospital in Canberra in 1989. I never think of that happy day–and I think of it often–without seeing Lucille in my memory. Gib Lanpher (who was DCM in Canberra while Tom was COS) joins me in sending our best wishes to the Ryan family, and expressing our thankfulness for Lucille’s life. David, by the way, is now a foreign service officer, following in Tom’s and Gib’s steps toward a career in public service. Very kindly, June Kronholz
A great Realtor and a wonderful Person, always willing to help another Realtor. She will be greatly missed by all at Avery Hess.

Lucille was such a wonderful, kind and caring lady. She has referred so many great customers to us and we cherished her friendship as well as the business relation. May God comfort her family in these difficult times. Judit and Alex
Tom and I were saddened to learn of Lucille’s passing. She was such a gentle, kind and caring person. We first met Lucille upon returning to the US in search of a house. We only had 30 days in which to do this and Lucille expertly and incredibly made it all happen. She even did this again for us several years later! Lucille was remarkable in many ways and will be missed. Our heartfelt condolences to her family. Tom and Valerie Cairns
To Tom & Family our sincerest condolences from your distant relatives in Ireland. Patricia & Pat Curran (Seavers side of Family)
To the entire Ryan family, I want to send my condolences at the passing of your strong and amazing wife and mother. I was welcomed with open arms into the Ryan home on many occasions and I look back at those times with great joy. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Lisa
