I worked with Marcella on the neighborhood board for a few years. She was a strong leader with a great sense of fairness and humor. She will be missed by her neighbors.
Harry, I am deeply sadened by the news of Marcella’s passing. While we have not communicated in many years, I have frequently asked about Marcella and received reports that she and you were having a wonderful retirement. Marcella was one of my favorite co-workers- hard working yet joyfull. Marcella shared with me names of doctors and advice for my serious eyes problems. I’m sure, I can see as well as I do today because of her advice. I do celebrate Marcella’s life as she was a very good person, but feel deep hurt at this moment. God be with you in your grief. Jim
Harry, My deepest sympathies on the loss of Marcella. It’s been both a real shock to me and a time to reflect on what a great person she was – my boss for my first 8 years in NOAA! I was recounting to a colleague just this morning that what I admired most about Marcella was her commitment. She was a true advocate and dogged fighter in the long road we traveled together to get better management of polluted runoff. The failure to clean up the Chesapeake Bay represents a policy failure – testament to her knowledge that, if we didn’t get tougher on the problem, it would not go away. I corresponded with her 2 years ago about getting all of us “6217ers” back together. I wish we had had the chance to do so. And I remember that she liked to go fishing…;-) Thoughts and prayers are with you, Peyton
Dear Harry, I want to express my deep appreciation for the opportunity to work with Marcella over the course of 20 years at OCRM, and my sadness at her loss too soon. I worked with Marcella as a co-worker and briefly as her supervisor in the Policy Office of OCRM. She was always great to work with, a person who had high standards and whose opinion I always sought. In my later years at OCRM, she recommended me to be the NOAA representative on the interagency Clean Water Action Plan and really heped me to catch up on the background and step up to this challenge. I will always be grateful to her for her generousity, intelligence and character. Please accept all of my sympathy. Sincerely, Vickie Allin
Dear Harry, Marcella was such a dear wonderful person. I enjoyed working with her and knowing her. We had a small group who regularly bought lottery tickets together and then laughed and sighed over our lack of luck. I kept telling Marcella that she and I were related as my grandfather’s middle name was Jansen. She patiently explained that Jansen was her married name and so we were not cousins as I had hoped. I have such wonderful memories of Marcella’s wonderfully kind and pleasant personality. She was just the nicest person imagineable. You have my deepest sympathy for your loss. I will keep you in my prayers. Sallie Cauchon Holden
