Margaret “Peg” Bowman
January 3, 1936 – February 16, 2023
Peg passed away in Leesburg, VA on February 16.
She was born Margaret Louise Buell in Washington, D.C. in 1936.
She was the first-born child of Mary Louise Kincheloe and Alden Buell.
Peg became a big sister with the birth of her brother Albert “Hank” Coombs III in 1944 to Mary and Peg’s step father Albert Coombs, Jr.
Peg spent her childhood in Great Falls, graduating from Herndon High School in 1954. She stayed in touch with some classmates from grade school through graduation for her whole life. Enduring friendships.
Peg married James Hilton Bowman on May 19, 1956. They were the beloved Aunt Peg and Uncle Jim to many nieces and nephews. After years in Vienna they built their dream home in Fairfax Station where they remained for more than 40 years. They were caretakers for the expanse of flowers, plants, and wildlife that knew where to come for comfort and snacks.
In June 1954 Peg’s employment began with the Department of Army. In recent days we have found commendations for her excellence in service and performance. She retired in 1989 as a Supervisor for Computer Analysts.
Peg is survived by her brother Hank; nieces Kari, Janet, Deborah, Lorraine, Christine, and Kelly. Also, nephews Warren, Jr and James. Hobo, her cat and faithful companion is being cared for by a great niece.
The service will be held at Money & King on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM. The family asks that in lieu of flowers you consider making a donation to The Fairfax County Animal Shelter: ffcas.org or 4500 West Ox Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030. Online condolences and fond memories of Peg may be offered to the family at www.moneyandking.com

Peg embraced life to the fullest. She accepted many challenges in her life. Most people wouldn’t ever know it, because of the way she focused on positivity. She had a wonderful demeanor that made for a wonderful friend and neighbor. I was extremely lucky to have had her in my life. She taught me so much about living life to its fullest. I will always love her.
The picture below is of some neighbors who spent the day together with Peg at National Harbor.
Peg and I became close friends while working on the Class Reunions of Herndon High School. She always worked so hard to keep our class informed. I will miss our talk, texts and sharing, especially during some times of sadness and illness. I will miss my most precious friend.
In all of my milestone memories you were there. At the beach, parties in our back yard, putting money in our Christmas stockings, weddings, graduations, girl’s trip to New York, teaching me about the different trees at the lot. You and Jim were more than aunt and uncle and I will miss you both forever.

My Iove to all the family!!!! Will miss my very special friend as I know all of you will. I will miss our talks and sharing daily events in our lives.
Dearest Peg,
You and Jim were the best neighbors Hermann and I could get after moving into Fountainhead. We shared the love for living in a wooded community, gardening, and taking care of all of the wild animals by feeding and caring for them (the “Number One” was the fox, “Tamy” who became bilingual and understood both American and German-Bavarian dialect). After moving to New York City to be with our daughter, Christina, and son, Andreas, we still stayed in contact by telephone. We also got to visit you when we came to Virginia, thanks to the efforts by the new homeowners of our former house, The Geddes. I was saddened about Jim’s passing, and now the same sadness for yours. You will always be in my memory as an artist, doing your beautiful paintings and pottery.
With Love, Lotte Spitzer (and in memory, Hermann)
Peg (and Jim) were both fantastic neighbors! I spent my teenage years growing up in the wooded community of Fountainhead and witnessed Peggy’s incredible love for nature. Looking out our window, over to our beloved neighbor’s home, I fondly recall the herds of deer that would pass by the yard in search of food, the adopted kitty-cats over the years, and the beautiful gardens created. Peg was a gentle, kind, and positive soul- I will always remember her smile. Rest in peace.
