September 23, 1925 ~ April 25, 2020
Marian Voltin Ramos of Fairfax, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2020, from Covid-19 at the age of 94. She was born in Hillman Township, Minnesota on September 23, 1925, to John Albert Voltin and Susan Mary Voltin (Waytashek) and grew up on the family farm.
Marian attended school in a one room schoolhouse located on her farm’s property. Later, in order to attend Little Falls High School, she had to move away from home. After graduation, she was recruited by the United States Navy during WW II where she worked for the government as a civilian in Arlington, VA.
In 1948, Marian married James Mariano Ramos. Although she wanted to be an aeronautical engineer, she instead decided to raise a family. The family lived in Arlington, VA, until 1964 when they moved to the Dunn Loring side of Vienna, VA. She remained in her home until she moved to a retirement community in Fairfax.
Marian loved nature and especially birds. She enjoyed gardening, an activity connected to her roots on the farm. She also loved the Washington Nationals and enjoyed watching them up until the end.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, James Mariano Ramos and her son Captain James Mariano Ramos Jr. USAF. She is survived by her sister Janelle Bryant (Fred) of St. Augustine, FL, her daughters Maria Suzanne Ramos of Fairfax, VA, and Carla Ramos Dundes (Robert) of Pittsburgh, PA, her son Steven Mark Ramos (Sarah) of Reston, VA, and three grandchildren, Alec Dundes (Carol), Colin Dundes, and Daniella Ramos.
Marian will be buried at Quantico National Cemetery alongside her husband, Jim, and son, Jamie. Due to current circumstances, there will be no memorial service at this time.

Mom, we all love and miss you so much, I find peace in knowing that you are at peace. Thanks for being such a wonderful mom, friend and guide through life.
Your mother was my Mom’s first cousin. Her Mother and my Mom’s mother were sisters in Pierz. I always remember addressing a Christmas card to her for my Mom. Hope I can meet some of the family someday in VA. Sandy Meyer daughter of Regina Kurtz Meyer.
A candle was lit for the decedent.
