Marilyn Helen Catherine Bann Sachs, 82, passed away October 22, 2013 at Falcons Landing in Potomac Falls, VA

She was born October 19, 1931 and was the seventh of nine children of Dolores (Kassebaum) and James (William) Bann.

Born and raised in New Baden , IL, she graduated from New Baden High School in 1949. She served as a Stenographer and Secretary for the Director of Communications, Deputy Chief of Staff, Comptroller Materiel, Scott Air Force Base, Air Training Command, Belleville, IL in the early 1950s. In 1957 she married Air Force Officer Armand (Charles) Sachs and began a family while assigned to various duty stations including a four year tour in Evreux France in the early 1960s. She and her husband would later settle in Richmond, VA and go on to own and operate Pizza Inns of Virginia, Inc. Divorced in 1978, she would go on to raise three children and worked as the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Sr. Vice President of the Mortgage Division, Crestar Mortgage from 1989 1996. Throughout her life she freely gave of herself in order to help those around her. She loved to spend time with her family, praying and volunteering her time at the Benedictine Abbey (Richmond, VA), and tending to her gardens.

She is survived by her sons Col. Charles W Sachs, USAF, Ret. (Jacqueline), San Antonio, TX, John C. Sachs (Katie) Arlington, VA, daughter Cynthia S. Galdabini (Christian) Arlington, VA, grandchildren Julia Sachs, Gabriel and Alessandra Galdabini, sister Suzanne Chapple, and brothers Ralph, Robert, Carl and Jim Bann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Gloria Hebenstreit, brothers Bill and Paul Bann.

In celebration of her life, family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 between 6:00PM and 8:00PM. The visitation will be held at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Avenue W, Vienna, VA 22180, (703) 938 -7440, www.moneyandking.com. A celebratory Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:00AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1910 N. Randolph St., Arlington, VA 22207, (703) 525-1166. A reception at the home of John and Katie Sachs will follow.

  5. I met Marilyn in 1981, when I moved across the street, on Amesbury Lane. I was a newlywed and Marilyn was recently divorced. We became fast friends over countless cups of coffee. We shopped together,lunched together and even travelled to my parents home in Pennsylvania. That was a great trip in her Cadillac! I will always cherish Marilyn’s compassion,laughter and friendship. I love you Marilyn and will never forget our time together…you were a special person in my life. Love, Sharon

  11. Dear Charles, John & Cynthia – I am so sorry to hear of your mother, my Aunt Marilyn’s sudden passing. She was a beautiful woman and we so enjoyed her Michigan visit a couple of years ago.
