Marina Guglielmino

January 13, 1958 ~ December 31, 2012
Marina Guglielmino brought joy to so many, and she sadly broke hearts by her untimely death at the age of 54.
Marina was born in St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Russia in January 1954. She was reared as most children at that time, but saw early on the advantages of moving to the United States, where she became a very proud and grateful citizen. She worked in the IT profession and constantly took courses for advanced degrees, eventually becoming an IT Director for Amtrak.
She was active in the local tennis league community. She was a regular at Worldgate Tennis Club, Fairfax Racket Club, Four Seasons Tennis and a number of other places where she played with the USTA.
Skiing and traveling were Marina's passions. She skied in the throughout US, the Alps and the Pyrenees with trips to most European and Eurasian countries. The notable exception is Portugal. Marina had a talent for determining a person's city of origin based on their accent, spelling of their name and other factors.
Marina would like to be remembered for her love and care of animals. She returned lost dogs to their owners, owned rescue dogs and, loved sighting wildlife, and was a keen birdwatcher.

Marina, dear Marina… So beautiful, so smart and such a great friend. I see you in school uniform and on a skating rink in snowy Leningrad more than 40 years ago, skiing in Colorado, at our class reunion that you organized and at our happy shopping trips in DC. You have been my best friend for many years and it seems impossible to accept that you were taken away so soon. You will live on in my fond memories.
I worked with Marina at Amtrak. She was a great Project Manager and a pleasure to work with. More importantly, she is a wonderful person. She will be sorely missed on this side. My prayers are with her.
My condolences, Jim. I am having a hard time to find the right words to help during your grieving. So, I thought I would share a poem by Nancy Rose Bouchard. Marina is your angel now and will watch over you each and every day. He Only Takes the Best God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around her and whispered, “Come with Me”. With tear-filled eyes we watched her suffer and fade away. Although we loved her deeply, We could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
Dear Jim, I do not have the words to express just how sorry I am. You are in my prayers.
Very saddened to hear we can’t see you again. you always used to wish everyone at Amtrak with a smile. We miss you as our program manager.Rest in peace.
Jim, I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your wife. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I will be missed; it’s time to fly away, go and rest in God’s arms, He will give you peace my friend.
To Marina’s family in your time of separation, please accept my sincere condolences and continued prayers for you all. I hope in time your memories of Marina will strengthen you and replace your tears with smiles. Yolanda Thomas Amtrak
We knew you for a short time, but we saw the joy you brought to your life and to those you loved. Rest in peace amid all the angels, John & Kate
I will miss seeing you on the tennis court and the fun we had together. You were a fighter to the end. My condelences to your family and friends.
My heart goes out to all of Marina’s loved ones. I enjoyed working with her at Amtrak and am so sorry that she is gone.
My heart felt condolences for your loss. I enjoyed knowing and working with Marina. May your heart be filled with loving memories and warm thoughts as that is how those of us who worked with her will remember her.
Jim, I am very very sorry to hear of your loss. I don’t know the story. But 54 is just too young to be going. I’m sure was a wonderful and irreplaceable human being. Know that I’m here to support you in any way I can as both a co-worker and a fried. Take Care, Mark Hooper
Dear Jim, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. Dawn
