Marlene Betty Groder

Marlene Betty Groder (née Johnson) of Oakton, VA, died surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 17 at Fairfax Hospital. She was born December 13, 1933 in Lisbon Falls, ME, to Arlene (Woodcock) and Francis Johnson.
She grew up in Gardiner, ME. and attended Gardiner High School, graduating with honors.
She moved to Boston in the early 1950s to attend the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing. After her graduation, she followed her Naval husband around the country and raised their three children.
When the children completed school, she re-entered the workplace employed at the Department of the Interior Health Unit where she utilized her Registered Nursing and Occupational Health training.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, CAPT. Robert E. Groder Sr. (RET) and daughter Michelle Shearer; and is survived by two children; Robert E. Groder, Jr., Karen (John) Kretlow and four grandchildren; Elizabeth and Michael Shearer and Zachary and Connor Kretlow. Additionally, she is also survived by her sister Deborah (James) Guzelian.
Funeral services will be held on August 31, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Arlington National Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at the Fife and Drum Room of the Officer's Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J.
