Marty P Smith (nee Perlowych), 80, died peacefully in her family home in McLean, VA on September 23, 2024. She was born in Lviv, Ukraine in 1943 and immigrated to the US as a young child with her family, settling in Toms River, NJ. She graduated from George Washington University with a degree in International Affairs.
Marty’s lifelong priorities were her family and her adoptive country. She applied her extraordinary abilities for hard work, research, and gentle, patient diplomacy in support of every circumstance, organization, or person she encountered. Her professional life was in politics. She worked at the Republican National Committee under GHW Bush and Bob Dole. She quit to follow Mike on assignment in Geneva for three years, where their first son, Martin Jr. was born. She interrupted her professional career for another 20 years to devote herself to raising Martin Jr. and Morgan. Then she found a place in the White House, where she worked in the National Economic Council throughout both President George W. Bush’s terms, 2001-2008. Following her retirement, she remained active with the Greater McLean Republican Women’s Club, serving in various roles including President, until just two months before her death.
Marty is survived by her husband of 55 years, Martin (Mike) Smith, sons Martin Jr. and Morgan, and grandchildren Aubrey and Charlie.
A viewing will take place Sunday September 29th at the Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna from 2-4 PM. Memorial services will be held Monday September 30th at the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in McLean at 1:00 PM.

Marty will be greatly missed by her friends at GMRWC. Marty was a smart and honorable person who greatly loved our Country and it’s Constitution. I personally will miss her wisdom, research and kindness. God Speed Marty!

I was so sorry to hear of Marty’s passing. We loved sharing stories about our grandchildren and wouldn’t miss the chance to post pictures of them on Facebook. I’ll miss our occasional lunches and her insightful conversations. May her memory hold in your hearts forever. My deepest condolences to Mike and their lovely family.
