Mary Christine “Chris” Oakley, 93, of Vienna, Virginia passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023.

She was born on Christmas Day in Texas to the late Earl Walter Carr and Reginald Marie McDowell Carr. She met the late Charles H. Oakley on a blind date in Denver, Colorado. It was love at first sight and they married and moved east to Virginia in 1963.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, her son (Larry Lile) and stepson and stepdaughter-in-law (Charles and Eileen Oakley), two brothers and sisters-in-law (Elwyn and Murlene Carr. Paul and Wanda Carr), and sister-in-law (Patty Carr).

She is survived by her daughter, Christi Oakley of Ashburn, Virginia; her brother, Gerald R. Carr of Tyler, Texas; ‘bonus daughters’ Nancy Simutis (Len) of Summerville, South Carolina and Janet Zinser (Thom) of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; granddaughters Valerie Phippen (Nate) of Hartland, Wisconsin; Sara Rossi of Glenview, Illinois; Deb Simpson (Colin) of Cody, Wyoming; Cheri Copeland (Eric) of Helena, Montana; and Ember Oakley of Riverton, Wyoming; her great-grandchildren Hunter, Will, Blake, Juliana, Mac, Nick, Trey and Mason; and nieces, nephews and extended family in Texas.

She worked at Paciulli Simmons & Associates, a local civil engineering firm in Vienna, for more than 30 years. She was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was also a long-time member of Westwood Country Club and spent many hours on the golf course and tennis courts. She loved the beach, adored dogs, and was an amazing cook and baker. She never met a stranger and was loved dearly by everyone who knew her.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers and staff at Thrive at Home, Great Falls Assisted Living, and PHS Hospice who provided loving care and comfort to her.

A visitation with the family will be held at 2pm Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 W Maple Avenue, Vienna, Virginia, with a celebration of her life to follow at 3pm. Mary Christine will go home to Texas for burial and her final rest.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. In Texas, she was known as Aunt Mary. One of the most fun memories is that on her birthday every year, her brothers, Elwyn, Paul and Gerald raced to see which one would call her first to tell her Happy Birthday on Christmas morning. She never got to sleep late as they were all early ( I mean really early risers) risers. She would get the biggest laugh trying to guess which one would call first. Her brothers adored her, as all of her neices and nephews have. Her soft soothing voice trait has been passed down to several of our gals in the family that reminds us so much of Aunt Mary. Just good genes I think. Praying for Christi and her family during this time. Just so blessed that we have had her in our lives for as long as we were permitted.

  2. Sending my deepest condolences to Christi and the rest of the family. ♥️ Chris’ warmth and caring was evident to anyone who was fortunate to meet and spend time with her. Chris’ Chicken Surprise casserole that she made for a going away party for me in 2004 is still in my casserole rotation. 🙂 May she rest in peace and love.

  3. We met Chris on the second day that we moved across the street from her in our wonderful cul de sac neighborhood. She was so sweet to us during our time living there. She was a grand southern lady and I cherish the memories. I know you are heart broken but remember she had had a great life. We can only hope ours will be as good as that generation of ladies. Love Coralynn and Michael Horton.

  4. Chris was the kindest woman I ever met. She was so nice and supportive to me during all my years working with her at Paciulli Simmons and Associates.
