  1. I’m so thankful for all the memories I have of my Aunt Jean. She was my father’s, Francis Patrick McCoy’s baby sister.

She and Uncle Jim took me on several trips when I was a young girl.

I saw the Atlantic ocean for the first time when she took me to the Maryland shore.

She took me with them to New England … we visited with her mother in law and then it was on to North Conway New Hampshire where I fell in love with the White Mountains.

I’m sure the joy she showed and shared with me while traveling inspired my own love for traveling, for seeing new places, meeting new people.

Her loving, generous, happy heart, will not be forgotten by those who knew her.

I took this photo of Aunt Jean and my niece Katie in October 2010, following the funeral and interment of her brother in law Tom Wagner, her sister Dorothy’s husband.

She often shared her faith with me and sent me little booklets and prayer cards of her favorite saints. I’m thankful for our shared Hope in the promises of Jesus Christ, that she now enjoys eternal rest and perfect peace.

  2. Shared a few of my favorite photos Aunt Jean had on her Facebook page. She was always so full of energy; with a quick and sincere smile. She lived such an interesting life. I loved her stories of her & Uncle Jim traveling in their RV & meeting up with friends. Her stories of working on committees for President JFK Election were amazing. I’ll miss hearing all the fascinating stories of her life. It was a life well lived❤️

  3. Jean was a wealth of information and fabulous stories from her years at work, clown, RVer. We do enjoyed our camping and traveling with Jean and Jim. God bless you Jean. Have a great time now with no pain, and enjoying times again with Jim, families and friends already in the glory of God. Love ya. Margie & Bernard Smith

  4. Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Mary?

A: Aunt Jean (Mary Jean) was never afraid to engage or confront people in the most outgoing way. In the late 50’s, Aunt Jean took my brother and I to Washington National Airport (WAS-Regan) to tour the airport fire department and terminal by invitation from employees who were Red Cross Volunteers as she was one. Upon arrival, she took the bull by the horn and placed my brother and I on fire equipment, all the while engaging her friends in banter and making them feel they.had given permission to go where only authorized personnel could go. Upon leaving her friends and their tour for Jean’s family; Aunt Jean saw a sign that said “Tower – Authorized Staff Only” and up we went. Before the gentleman could address Aunt.Jean about our presence; she said, “The boys will leave the flying to you gentlemen, we just needed to take a quick peek at your beautiful city from here.” They all smiled and showed us around and then thanked Aunt Jean for Not Coming Back.
Mary Jean (Aunt Jean) was one of a kind and we loved her for it !!!

  5. Jean was one of the first to welcome us when we first moved to Vienna in 2005. She was always friendly and loved the kids of the neighborhood. I remember her petitioning the town to have signage put up to help keep the kids of the area safer. Our condolences to your family.

  6. As new neighbors, Jean would tell us how much she enjoyed our lawn landscaping; when we wanted to build a front patio and the town challenged it because it would exceed the supposed hardscape limit, Jean appeared at the hearing on our behalf and passionately defended us, making us feel very special. We won the right to build our patio, as Jean emphatically pointed to one of the town’s council members and reminded him that she knew his Mother, and that his Mother would want him to vote judiciously. Oh, it was classic Jean, and we will always treasure and be thankful for that moment when she shined for us. RIP, Jean.

  7. What a perfect time on Mother’s Day weekend to pay tribute to these two mothers who were dear friends: Jean Erving and my mom, Estelle Sawyer. These two would go to a workout gym together and barely workout, but felt they’d earned a big lunch afterward! They were such a hoot together. So many funny stories. Love reading everyone’s tribute and learning even more about Jean and all she has done in her life. May these two be yucking it up somewhere in the universe!
