Mary Therese Conaway

Mary Therese Conaway (Tek), 97, of Springfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025. She was born October 28th, 1927 in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James Fox and Estelle Kennedy. Tek attended St. Patrick’s Catholic High School and graduated on June 7, 1945.  She enjoyed a variety of school activities, but especially loved participating in the theatre group. Tek continued to foster a love for theatre throughout her life, attending Broadway plays and local plays as well.  Tek married Robert Reed Conaway (Bob) February 26th, 1949 and had two sons Drew and Brian.

Tek worked in various fields, primarily in aviation.   She worked as an airline reservation agent with United Airlines, managing the reservation desk for several years.  She enjoyed working in the airline industry and the opportunity it gave her to travel the world, including Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, Europe, Thailand and her beloved Ireland (just to name just a few!).  Just as she loved travelling, Tek also loved surrounding herself with family and friends.  Both Tek and Bob were excellent cooks and known for their fun-loving spirits and their hospitality.

Remaining to cherish Teks’s memory are her sons Drew Conaway (Michelle) and Brian Conaway (Bonnie), her six grandchildren Sean Conaway, Brennan Conaway, Ryan Conaway, Erin Conaway Good, Lauren Conaway Lemcke, and Kevin Conaway,  her fifteen beautiful great-grandchildren and her two Goddaughters Ann Marie Jackson and Mary Beth Cusack.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Reed Conaway, her brother Joseph Fox, and her nephew Gregg Fox.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Rd, Springfield, VA 22152 on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11:00 am.  Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Instead of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Tek can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
