Maureen McLoughlin

maureen mcloughlin
Mary (Maureen) Ann McLoughlin (nee Shanahan), age 79, entered into eternal rest on March 31, 2022. Maureen is survived by her five children - Patrick, Margaret, Maureen (Todd), John (Carrie), and Kevin (Susan) - her brother Edward (Sandy), and her sister Peggy (Andrew). She was the proud Mim to twelve grandchildren: Anna, Aidan, Erin, Caelan, Brendan, Elise, Julia, Evelyn, Jack, Ryan, Patrick, and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her husband Pat, son Terence, grandchildren Ned and Nora, as well as her parents Edmund and Margaret Shanahan.

Maureen was born on July 1, 1942 in New York, NY and attended St. Jean Baptiste High School. She graduated summa cum laude from The City of New York: Lehman College. Maureen and Pat were married on October 24, 1964 and raised their family in the Bronx, NY and Vienna, VA.

She was the consummate educator. She worked tirelessly as a paraprofessional for the Board of Education in NY working with children with multiple disabilities. She enjoyed her time as a preschool teacher at Parkwood Preschool in Vienna, VA and loved her career as a Math Specialist at Flint Hill School in Oakton, VA until her retirement in 2002. In retirement and up until her passing, she guided countless high school students through their math courses and college entrance exams.

She enjoyed decades of summers in East Quogue, NY where she relished her beach time with family and friends to include countless gatherings, Irish Dances, and nights playing Mah Jonng with her girlfriends. She was an excellent cook, as anyone lucky enough be invited to her holiday celebrations or Sunday celebrations can attest. Her most favorite role was being a mother and that was only topped when she became a grandmother. Mim took spoiling to the next level and made sure her grandchildren had the best of the best. She diapered and fed the babies while teaching teens to drive and always ensuring all children had the gifts they desired and cash in their pockets.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I was blessed to be a friend of Maureen’s more in her later years. We both had five children and a few of our children were friends with each other. Maureen and Pat were the perfect Irish couple so we certainly had lots in common there. I shall miss all of the time that we were able to spend together. It certainly wasn’t enough but it was great. Maureen, I can see you up there with Pat dancing with the angels! Until we meet again I will think of you with fond memories. Kathleen Becker

  2. Maureen was a beautiful and cherished person to know. She was a cheerful person to be around and everybody loved her and ,she will be missed ,but not forgotten.

  3. My memories of Maureen are how hard she worked with her students to help them “get” mathematics, her wonderful smile and laugh that accompanied a great sense of humor. She was genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever known. I know she will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

  4. Sheila Evers extends her condolences to all of Maureen’s children. She remembers fondly many beach days with all of you.

  5. Maureen tutored my twins in highschool math. She was the BEST teacher out there. She truly cared about the success of my
Boys and every child. She’d always make hot chocolate for one of my boys before they got to
work. Always made them feel special
and smart. So sad to hear she’s gone. But so happy we had the chance to know her. She was so special. – Mary Pat Julian, Vienna
