Maurine R. Bohnslav
November 3, 1931 ~ September 28, 2022
She was born coming out of the Great Depression in New London, Ohio to Jesse and Erma Reeley. She joined a large family of three boys and four girls as the youngest, all of whom have predeceased her. After being graduated from New London High School and The Ohio State University, she and her husband Paul lived in Ohio, New Mexico, and Georgia before settling in Reston, Virginia in 1969. She loved her time in Reston.
She was a teacher throughout her life, with her students always having a special place in her heart, especially those with special needs while she taught at Herndon Intermediate School. She also ran her own furniture company for a number of years developing friendships with those who came to her to brighten their homes. Maurine especially enjoyed her time at the National Wildlife Federation, moving from there to become the Executive Assistant to the President of Wolf Trap. She served in a number of charitable causes including Loaves and Fishes, which always brought her joy. In addition, she loved to shop, always sharing her finds with family and friends to give them a special gift and a smile. She was a member of Vale United Methodist Church, the Choir and the United Methodist Women, where her religious family was just as important as her real one. Her faith was a central part of her life.
She loved to travel, visiting many places in the United States and Europe. She was always looking for the sights that would make each trip special. Some of her favorite trips involved the family gathering on Lake Erie and a long weekend attending a NASCAR race. Family was always key to her enjoyment.
She is remembered by her son and daughter-in-law in Mooresville, NC, Tim and Marilyn Bohnslav as well as her daughter and grandsons in Oakton; Beth, Thomas and Michael Tribble.
Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Organization (alz.org) in her name.
