Mercedes T. Mangan

February 15, 1931 ~ April 29, 2015
Merce passed peacefully on April 29, 2015, surrounded by numerous family members at home where she lived with her niece, Marie and her 5 children.
Preceded by her parents, Joseph and Hannah Mangan, sister Stephanie Hogan and brother Rev.Patrick Mangan,
OMI. She is survived by her sister, Mary Flynn.
A very special Aunt to her 16 nieces and nephews and 35 great-nieces and nephews, Merce had unconditional love for her family and treasured her Catholic faith.
As a native New Yorker and as a testament to her Irish heritage, Merce could be found each St. Paddy's Day decked out in "GREEN" going to Mass at St. Patricks Cathdral, watching the parade go by and then onto an Irish Restaurant for the festivities.
She had a love of tennis, travel, her beach club, country line dancing, iPad, Words With Friends and Scrabble. Merce shared these cherished activities with a multitude of family and friends both during and after her 35 year career as an Executive Secretary with Sperry Rand Corporation.
After retirement she did volunteer work for the Little Sisters of the Poor in their nursing home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be sent in her name to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Queen of Peace Residence, 110-30 221st Street, Queens Village, New York, 11429-2597.

How I will miss my dear Aunt Merce……. She only saw the good in everybody! I always said this world needs more Aunt Merces. Here’s to you Aunt Merce, one of a kind! I’ll drink to that, Bubby!
Once in a lifetime, we might be lucky enough to walk with one who truly lived her faith. I was that lucky. Unconditional love, compassion, integrity and forgiveness… She mixed these attributes with humor and patience. How lucky I was to walk beside her on a daily basis. The Herndon Flynns will miss our dear Merce! God bless.
Aunt Merce was Aunt to everyone. I was a nanny to her niece Marie’s children and all the family just made me feel very welcome and as a part of the family. I remember when Aunt Merce will come from New York to visit and I always made sure her room was super clean and welcoming for her. She will always call me and say Thank You “Susie”. She always had a little gift for me from New York . My Deepest Condolence to all the Family but remember she was a great woman and she is resting Peacefully in God’s Blossom
Heaven got a little brighter and a little Irisher this week. Cheers Dears, to my role model, my hero, my roomie, and friend. “I’m so glad we had this time together…”

Godspeed, God bless Dear Merce and her beloved family. I have 45 years of wonderful memories from the “Birthday Club” dinners in Manhattan’s finest restaurants and countless hours of chat. “Cheers Dears, Slainte and Bubby” bring tears to my eyes and smiles to my face. It was wonderful knowing this angel who has returned to her Heavenly home. To know Merce was to love her. She will be missed.

Aunt Merce, We shared many things, the Flynn and Hogan families, our New York attitudes and love for all things New York and our Vegas trips with Mom and Mike. I am blessed to have been a part of your life. You never met a stranger, your smile always lit up a room and the only time I ever saw you be less than honest was when Lolo beat you and Nanny at Scrabble. I think that was in your DNA because Uncle Pat took a vow of poverty and still beat us at Poker. My heart breaks for the sadness of your loss for those of us left behind, but it rejoices in the knowledge that you are in Heaven with the whole family. I believe in my heart that Dad and Timmy were there waiting with open arms, but I am not sure where they were in line because there were quite a few people waiting to welcome you to God’s paradise. I love you Bubbelah. Thanks for the memories!!!!
