Michael George Varmecky (“Vark”), 69, passed away July 15, 2024 after a long and hard fought battle against Esophageal cancer. Born January 5, 1955 in Washington, DC, Michael was the son of the late Charles and Anne Varmecky.

Michael was a graduate of George C. Marshall High School, class of 1973, where he made many friendships that still exist today. He received his Associate’s Degree in Hotel/Hospitality Management from Northern Virginia Community College. Most recently he worked at the American Legion Post 180 in Vienna where his hospitality skills shined.

Michael is survived by his partner, Stephanie Gallups, his brother Stephen (Connie) Varmecky, nieces Hannah (Lee) Whritenour, and Meredith Varmecky, and his sister Mary (Robert) Feaga.

Michael was a kind and gentle soul who would do anything for anyone, especially caring for his elders. He had many friends and enjoyed getting together with them even over the four (4) plus years that he fought this horrible disease. He enjoyed attending concerts and trips to the beach. Ever the sportsman, he enjoyed all sports, especially following the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and table games of all sorts. Soft spoken and upbeat, Michael was always fun to be around. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and unforgettable memories. He will be missed dearly.
