Michael William Hurley
May 10, 1943 ~ March 27, 2021
Son, Brother, Friend, Husband, Father, Consultant, Co-Worker, Confidant, International Trade Director, and Honest, Honorable Human Being.
Michael was born May 10, 1943. He was the first of five children born to Marita Conford and William Farrell Hurley. He died peacefully March 27, 2021, surrounded by his children Emelia Marita, Patrick Timothy, and his wife, Susan.
The Hurley family moved from Olivia to Kansas City Missouri, where William joined the City’s Office of the District Attorney and Marita cared for their home and Michael, who was joined by siblings, Timothy, Colleen, Marita and Nancy.
Michael excelled at school and sports. He loved learning, receiving his Master’s in Education, and Master’s in Spanish. He taught at local high schools and at the college level in Kansas City and Northern Virginia. Through one of his Spanish classes, he was asked to translate and travel with a company making olive sales in Spain. This was the beginning of a long and diversified career. Michael worked with a St. Louis Company, Tiffany Industries, which had won a contract with the Ecuadorian Government to build a rice/grain processing plant. This eleven-year project brought Michael back to the United States, to the DC area, and to two different Associations: ASACI and NPES. ASACI represented Agricultural Ventures and NPES represented Print associations. Both Associations provided many years of traveling and making a difference in the world.

So very sad that Mike has left our world but at the same time grateful that his spirit has been set free. I only knew Mike for a short time but he always brought a smile to my face. God Bless him and his wonderful family. No one can take his place in your hearts. Love, Barb Brant “A fellow pilgrim”
I was saddened to learn of Mike’s death, and all the family are in my prayers for comfort and strength at this sad time. Mike was a good friend and valued work colleague during our years at NPES. Carol Hurlburt
I knew Michael for less than a year in Ecuador. I was living with Susie. He sure did love her. He was always so kind, quiet, graceful and often quite humorous. So glad I got to know him. Sending love to all his dear family. Patsy VDB
Dear Susan and family, Very sorry to hear of Mike’s passing: Diane and I send our condolences and prayers for comfort and peace to you all. Mike was a neighbor and embraced all that the perfect neighbor should be. He was always there to lend a hand, quick humor and intelligent input. He loved Susan dearly and had so much pride in his children. God bless the Hurley’s and may he RIP. A very special man has moved on. Love the Murphy’s.
I only recently learned of Mike’s passing. He was a good friend, great colleague, fine man and true gentleman. Thoughts and prayers to Susan and family.
