Nick J. Nikas

Colonel Nikas was born in Canonsburg, PA. He received a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master's degree in the Computer Sciences from American University and George Washington University.

He served during wartime in Austria (WWII), Korea (7th Cavalry Regiment) and in Vietnam. He served overseas in Austria, Japan, Greece and Germany.

His awards included 3 Legions of Merit, 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Army Commendation Ribbons, the CIB, the Distinguished Service Medal of Greece, and the War Cross of Greece. Colonel Nikas was inducted into the infantry OCS Hall of Fame in Fort Benning, Georgia.

Upon retirement in 1975 from the Pentagon, where he served in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Army, he joined SDC as a System Engineer. He also worked for BDM. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nadia, of Vienna, VA; daughter Victoria Ross of Dallas, Texas and son, Nick Jr. of Front Royal, Virginia.

Nick was a member of St. Katherine's Greek Church, AHEPA #438, Army-Navy Country Club and MOAA.

Funeral services will be held at St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church, 3149 Glen Carlyn Road, Falls Church, VA on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 12:30 PM Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 3pm on May 15, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church
