Patricia Ann Connarn

Patricia Ann Recicar Connarn beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in her home in Vienna, VA following a short bout with cancer. She was a coal miner’s daughter born in Uniontown, PA to the late Stephen and Blanche Recicar. Pat was pre-deceased by her husband of over 60 years, John J. Connarn.

Following high school graduation, Pat and three girlfriends left the coal mining town on a bus to the big city of Detroit. It was there, while working as a Secretary at Michigan Bell, that she met John. They were married at Gesu Church in 1960 and took a 3-week honeymoon through Europe. While there, they bought a Renault bug that would serve as her mode of transportation for over 15 years.

They wasted no time and had five kids in five years, along with multiple corporate moves. While doing a two-year stint at the AT&T Headquarters in NYC they lived in Old Bridge, NJ.

By 1969 they settled back in Troy, Michigan for 14 years and, while there, made lifelong friends. In addition, they were surrounded by their sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. There were endless barbeques, pool parties, an annual pig roast and holiday get-togethers with family and friends.

The neighborhood kids would come to love her. All winter, she called everyone in from the cold, as the bus stop was on their driveway. After school she became a confidant to many who shared their teenage woes with a safe ear. If you knew her, you knew, she was a listener. And if you knew her, you knew, her home is where her heart was. She was a person of faith who enjoyed nothing more than being home with her loved ones and never wanting for more or feeling that she missed out on a thing.

In 1983, John’s job took them to Washington, DC where her pattern continued. A dreaded business dinner turned into her making a new best friend, knowing their whole life story and not wanting to leave. John would have to pull her away.

In their later years they traveled the world and enjoyed their time in the Northern Neck of Virginia and in Naples, Florida. Again, they met dear friends in both places, in their neighborhoods, their churches and at Westwood Country Club. She had a life filled with a lot of love, both given and received; and as it turned out, she would spend 40 years in her home in Vienna.

She is survived by her loving children Karen Ehrensaal (Bruce), Jim Connarn, Greg Connarn, Charlene Schlimgen and Mary Middlethon (Steve); Sisters Kay Grogan-Libby (Herman) and Barb DiMercurio (the late Larry Handy); Brother the late Steve Recicar (the late Lois); Sisters-in-law Maureen Krause (the late Patrick Kane and the late Bill) and Ruth Mazzaro (the late Lou); and the late Florence Booms (Dick) and the late Marge Nelson (Don); Grandchildren Jamie Connarn, Jessica Connarn, Jennifer Connarn, Kristie Ehrensaal, Michelle Ehrensaal, Caroline Schlimgen, Michael Schlimgen, Brian Schlimgen, Colin Middelthon and Laura Middelthon.

A celebration of life and full mass will take place on Saturday, November 11, at 11:00 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Vienna, VA. Gathering will begin at 10:00am
