God called Patsy Jane Wooden, age 63, home on February 14, 2011 at Fairfax Hospital. She was born to William and Leonie Hall on December 25, 1947 in Washington, DC and was raised in Vienna, VA. She graduated from James Madison High School in 1966 and attended classes at Northern Virginia College in 1967. Patsy married her husband John Wooden on February 10, 1968 and celebrated 43 years of marriage in 2011.

Patsy was baptized and believed in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Family was very important to her and she made friends feel like family. She worked at United Planning Organization from 1969 1980 and began working at the Department of Agriculture in September 1980 as a secretary/stenographer where she worked her way up to the position of Financial Management Specialist. Patsy worked for the Government for 29 years until her retirement in May 2009. She continued to work as a contractor for the Government until her untimely death.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, John Wooden of Vienna, VA; daughter Lauren Wooden of Woodbridge, VA; son Jonathan Wooden and daughter-in-law Claire of Sterling, VA; daughter Janis Jeusi and son-in-law Kenyatta of Woodbridge, VA; six grandchildren Steven, Tanisha, Darion, Kenyatta, Jr., Jonathan, and Kiaya; three sister-in-laws Thelma Polk, Mary McCargo, and Mary Wooden and one predeceased sister-in-law Ethel Wheeler; three brother-in-laws Wesley Wooden, Jr., Leonard Polk, John McCargo and one predeceased brother-in-law Russell Wheeler; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Patsy enjoyed many things during her life. As a child she developed a love for the piano and was able to share that with her grandchildren. She was a Girl Scout Leader for more than five years where she was affectionately known as the "cookie monster." She competed in chili cook-offs with her husband and son and loved scrap booking. She enjoyed knitting, putt-putt golf, and playing softball with her co-workers but her greatest joy came from being surrounded by family and friends. Whether it was a smile, a touch, or a kind word, Patsy touched everyone she met and made them feel as if they were part of the family. She will be greatly missed.

  1. My thoughts and prayers are with the Wooden family. Pat was a good friend and I will miss her greatly. She had a fabulous smile,a great laugh, and cared about those around her. She will be greatly missed.

  2. No matter how old we are, losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know, but Patsy’s goodness, her caring and her wisdom lives on. I pray your hearts and souls find piece and comfort.

  3. I worked with Patsy for a year in 2007 at the USDA where she was a dedicated worker loved and respected by all. Her conscientiousness, professionalism, and dedication was obvious and her kindness, and concern for others made her a joy to work with. I am sorry she has passed away so young but was very happy to read the beautiful obituary that described her large and extended family.

  4. Lauren,Steven and the rest of the Wooden family even though I had never met Mom I feel as though I had know her for a long time. Just with talking to Lauren and hearing her stories about Mom,Dad, her sister and of course her brother. It was amazing the way that you all were so very close. Lauren is like a little sister to me. We have worked at Hospice for so long I go to her about everything. And, yes Stephen that makes you my grandson, So watch out. I just want you all to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all and that your Mom has put a lot of Love into each of you and she may be in Heaven looking down but the good times and the love no one can ever take from you all. xoxoxo, Wanda

  5. The first time I met Pat I knew she was a gentle soul. My heart goes out to the family. May they bask in the joy of her loving spirit, live life as she would have wanted and not in the sorrow of her loss but in the joy of her memory. With Love Brenda She was always there for me, she would always tell me when I was right and for sure when I was wrong but never judged. I will always treasure the card games we had. With Love Randy

  6. To the Wooden Family, It’s not easy losing a mom and wife who was always there for her family. That was very evident to us as the cars pull in at the Wooden home especially on weekends. We wish we had the perfect words of comfort for you right know…please know that we are thinking about you and your family.

  7. Her life of unconditional love for family and friends now belongs to Heaven. We will see her again in a perfect world.

  8. To the Wooden Family, Words cannot express how saddened I was to receive the call about Mom Pat. She was so sweet and caring and made me feel right at home my first visit. Your family is so special to me and although it’s been a while since I’ve seen you all I will definitely remember mom Pat’s loving smile. May God give you strength and comfort you during this difficult time. Love you all, Steph and Derone

  10. Dear Lauren & family.. though I will not be there in person my thoughts & prayers are with you this evening and tomorrow during the services to celebrate your Mom’s life & love for each of you..and in the time ahead as you each grieve & heal. Myself & my daughter Courtney met Mrs. Wooden during a scrapbook gathering at Laurens several years ago so that she could help me repair photos of my parent’s wedding that had been damaged in a housefire..she was truly a special person…and will live on in each of you..time does help ease the pain..and then your memories are so cherished. Sincerely Noreen Fonnesbeck
