I’ve been at a loss for words, but watching the beautiful video montage helped. We moved two doors down in December 1965 and I have so many wonderful memories of growing up between our two homes – often under Pearl’s watchful eye. I so admired Pearl. Strong and wise, but gentle and with such a radiant smile, Pearl seemed to be the quintessential homemaker with an awesome chicken soup and a little feminist streak that came through with a knowing sparkle in her eye. And her wisdom and spark were very much present in throughout her life including our recent visits. I will miss Pearl so.
Thank you for including me and my family in your mother’s memorial service. I’m grateful to have been included. You and your family did an incredible job capturing your mother and father and your relationships with them. I’m certain they’d feel the same. I have very fond memories of both of your parents. My mom, Shirley, always talked about the time shared with Pearl at City College and particularly at summer session at Cornell! Yes, they went because they were very bright, but according to my mom, also because there were so many young men and and so few women! Your parents and mine were friends since those years. My dad, Sam, and Maurice would regularly play tennis and other sports. My mother and Pearl were extremely close friends. My parents and yours vacationed together and were always included in important family activities and events. Of my parents’ friends, they were very special. I liked them very much and remember them with great affection. My mother was regularly in touch with Pearl (one of the only friends with whom she currently maintained phone contact) and was very shocked and saddened to learn of your mother’s passing. She misses her greatly.
May her memory bring you joy and comfort.
Love,
Alex
