Peter Frederick Riehm
August 9, 1944 - April 1, 2020
Peter F. Riehm passed away April 1, 2020 at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, VA. Born
August 9, 1944, he was raised in the Bronx, NY and spent his summers at Culver Lake, NJ, but
he lived most of his adult life in Vienna, VA. He was a graduate of Fordham Preparatory School
in the Bronx, as well as the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN where he earned four
degrees including his PhD in mechanical engineering. He worked for the Nuclear Regulatory
Commission in Washington, DC, and spent 20+ years working as a consultant for SAIC.
Peter was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, coworker, and friend. He
was brilliant, hard-working, and big-hearted but will surely be remembered and missed for his
sense of humor. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret, his devoted children
Erica Howley and Jake Riehm and their spouses, as well as five adored grandchildren and
many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at St. Francis de Sales Catholic
Church in Purcellville, VA on April 10, 2021 at 12pm. Reception to follow. Peter will be laid to rest
at Union and Halstead Cemetery in Carmel, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made at the Parkinson’s Foundation’s Moving Day DC site for the team formed in Peter’s
honor, “For Pete’s Sake: Team Riehm” at www.movingdaydc.org (search for participant Erica
Howley).
