Peter Lyle Wrenn

peter wrenn
Peter Lyle Wrenn went home on March 1st, peacefully, surrounded by his loving children and sister. In 1944 Peter would become the third of four children born to Edwin and Mary Wrenn of Vienna, VA. Peter graduated from Madison High School in Vienna where he was a captain on the football, basketball, and baseball teams and would later be inducted into Madison’s Hall of Fame for his amazing physical skill and competitive nature.

He attended Bullis prep school before accepting a scholarship to join the Virginia Tech football team in 1963 and became the first student athlete to graduate with honors from the prestigious architectural program. Peter also enjoyed competing in various heavyweight arm-wrestling circuits in the 70’s.

Peter relocated back to Vienna to work for Ward & Hall as an architect and later opened his own private practice which he ran successfully until his retirement.

Along with his talents for architectural design, he was also a gifted and prolific artist and carpenter. Given his many life accomplishments, his greatest – as he often stated – was his role as a father and grandfather.

He lived for the moments he spent at family gatherings, dinners, and activities, surrounded by an abundance of love, joy, and laughter. He was a gentle giant and lived a full and humble life. His love, kindness, and generosity touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and loved. His spirit will remain with us forever.

Peter is survived by his children, Jennifer Wrenn, Jake Wrenn (Erica) and Jesse Wrenn (Krystal); 5 grandchildren, Alexandra Wrenn, Brooke Wrenn, Grayson Wrenn, Kai Wrenn and Adeliene Wrenn; his brother, David Wrenn (June) and his sister, Brenda Bohon (Skip); his nieces, Wendy Sacco (Greg & Kirsten), Carolyn Suarez (Lyda & Anthony), Beth Krick (AJ, Vivian, Joelle & Linnea), his nephews, Christian Wrenn (Christopher), Tony Wrenn (Judi, TJ & Hailey), Erick Bohon (Adriana) and his first wife, Carmen Hughes Clark and son, JC Clark.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Wrenn, his daughter, Christina Wrenn, his brother Richard Wrenn and his mother in law, Esther Claffy.

A private life celebration gathering will be held at the family plot at Chestnut Grove in Herndon, Va. (Saturday, March 13th at 1:00pm) where Peter will be laid to rest with his Daughter, Brother, Mother and Father.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to michaeljfox.org for Parkinson’s disease research.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Not sure what shocked me more, seeing Pete’s crew cut the first time I met him or seeing his new longer hair style years later at a reunion. As a freshman going against the big boys I got my first hard college lick from Pete. Yep, it is absolutely a clear memory even today. He was a good friend & a good man, and a great teammate. I will miss him. Paul Ripley

  2. Pete was a friend & teammate at Va Tech. I was a freshman when I first met Pete. He had a scary tough presents. My first encounter with him on the football field was memorable, he broke my facemask. He was a stud. RIP Pete ! Lenny Luongo

  3. I am Coach Claiborne’s oldest son David. The attached painting hung in our house since Pete created it for Dad before he graduated. It has hung in our house in New Orleans since Dad passed away

  4. Peter, it was a pleasure having met you, only what seemed to be a few years ago, how time goes by. We still admire the beautifully designed table we bought from you and it will always be part of our home. To the family members of Pete Wrenn, my sincere condolences. Your father was so nice and a gentlemen. Very talented and kind. I’m sure he will be missed. Sincerely, Mary Guida and Greg Seemann
