Rebecca "Beckie" Jane Trumbo Bates
November 25, 1947 ~ March 19, 2022
Rebecca Jane Trumbo Bates (Beckie) was born to the late George Cleveland Trumbo Jr. and Josie Irene Dolly Trumbo of Onego, WV on November 25, 1947. Surrounded by her loving family, she peacefully entered into rest in her Vienna, VA home on March 19, 2022.
Beckie graduated from West Virginia University and completed her graduate degree at the University of Maryland. She met her husband, Glen Bates, in Washington, D.C., and they began to travel the world together. They enjoyed many global excursions as a couple and with their family. After retiring from a career in the federal government, she continued her passion for travel. Planning her next trip and listening to others’ stories of travel gave her great pleasure. In retirement she became a licensed Washington D.C. tour guide who delighted in sharing her knowledge and little-known facts about the nation's capital.
She was a member of Vienna Presbyterian Church, where she cherished the Christian fellowship of her Bible Study and Book Club communities. She felt closest to God in the garden, and had a green thumb which would have made her agricultural ancestors proud. She was a past president of the local chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society, and a member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides. Her life was richly blessed by a group of dear and treasured friends. Always offering to lend an ear or hand, she leaves a beautiful legacy of a loving, kind, generous and gregarious spirit.
Beckie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Glen Bates, her daughter, Glenda Bates and partner Poh Soon Teng, her son George Bates and wife Brittany Bates, her grandsons Theo and Nolan, and her sister Jo Jordan and husband Bob Jordan. Beckie was devoted to her family and happiest when her family was gathered around her table.
Funeral services will be held at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St., NE, Vienna, VA on Thursday, March 24 at 1:30pm. For those unable to join us in person, please see the livestream link belwo. Interment at Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield, WV on Friday, March 25 at 10am.

We will surely miss seeing Beckie at the farm. Praying that all the great memories that the family had with Beckie will comfort them in the journey ahead without her. Love, Mike and Cynthia Yokum
Our sincere sympathy at the loss of someone so very dear and special to us all. Your faith and joy touched us all Beckie. We will miss you dearly.
As Beckie’s cousin, I thought of her as a friend and loved one. Our times together were never enough, so each was special. I was always excited when I ran into the Trumbo sisters who were childhood role models to me. Beckie was always fun to chat with when we got together. Our family won’t be the same as we will miss Beckie, but we have wonderful memories of her. Knowing she is being cared for by God now and no longer suffers is a comfort. My sympathy and prayers to Beckie’s family as you adjust to this loss. My love to you all.
Remember that we love and care about you. Love and Hugs to the entire Bates Family.
We will miss Beckie at the Seneca Rocks Church where she & family visited often with her parents, George & Josie. Our prayers are with the family.

Beckie and your Aunt Josephine started their education in the one-roomed Mt Joel School in the Middle Timber-ridge community west of Riverton where I was an eighth grader prior to high school days at Circleville High. Miss Josie was my favorite elementary teacher. I am very sorry to hear that Beckie has passed away as I have always treasured the memory of the Trumbo family. I served a 30-plus year career in the Army and retired to western Washington in 1992. Thanks for posting the obituary. Charles S. Nelson (Sammy to the folks back home)
So happy that Becki’s funeral was video taped. I also real enjoyed the photos of the family! God bless your family, you have so many beautiful memories to remember.
