Dick Schwartz of Northern Virginia died on August 10, 2013 at his home surrounded by loving family and friends. Born April 2, 1932 in Sandy Spring, MD, he was a graduate of Sidwell Friends, the University of Maryland (Sigma Alpha Epsilon), and Officers Candidate School, he served four years with the U.S. Navy. Dick retired as the director of contracts at Honeywell Federal Systems, Inc. In retirement he enjoyed working as a driver for his daughter.

He was a true sports enthusiast and his favorite teams were the Redskins, the Terps, and the Nationals. He had a killer tennis serve and was always working on his golf game. Extremely competitive, he enjoyed shuffle board, poker, dominoes, and any game he could win! He was a devoted Pop Pop who enjoyed family traditions and shared his enthusiasm with all.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Anne S. Schwartz; daughters Marianne (John), Betsy (Rick), and Dana (Skip); grandchildren Kelly (Andy), Jesse (Monika), Heather, Jack, AnnaLea and Wesley. He is survived by his brother, Phil (Maggie), sister-in-law Arlene (late brother Frank), and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many wonderful friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Dick's Life Celebration, wearing your favorite team's colors, at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Thursday, August 15 from 6-8PM. A memorial Service will be held at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, 1724 Chain Bridge Rd, McLean, VA on Saturday, August 17 at 10:30 AM. Inurnment will follow in the Church Cemetery with Navy Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in Dick Schwartz's name.

  1. Dear Ann & family, I am so, so sorry to read of Dick’s passing–he looks as I remember him. It has been way too many years–remember the trip to Indian Lake? My favorite story would have to be Dick carting me around piggy-back up at Conneaut Lake so I could be in on everything! And of course, your wedding–so many memories even tho it has been years. My deepest sympathy & prayers are with you at this time. May God envelope you in his arms & help you thru. My love to you Annie girl!

  7. I will think of Dick on every fourth Monday of the month, which was our regular scheduled tennis match. He rarely canceled even when dealing with his medical treatments–what a trooper. Dick was an inspiration to us at Four Seasons Tennis Club. He was an hororable, genuinely nice guy.
