Robert "Bob" Schroeder
January 31, 1947 ~ August 20, 2022
Robert “Bob” Schroeder, 75, of Vienna, VA, passed away in his home on August 20, 2022. Bob was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania on January 31, 1947, to William and Jane Schroeder. He was raised in Carbondale and spent his summers water skiing at nearby Crystal Lake. He attended Scranton Preparatory School and then went on to graduate from Penn State University.
Bob dedicated 30 years to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission where he contributed to the regulation of natural gas pipelines. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hike, camp, lift weights, and ride his bicycle. He played an active role in his kids’ lives and was a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 183 for several years.
Always busy with a project, during his free time he could usually be found fixing or maintaining the family’s cars and home. He was dedicated to his family, and ultimately seemed to find his true calling when he became a grandfather. Bob was always excited to play with his grandkids and wasn’t afraid to get down on the floor for hotwheels or to make diving saves playing badminton.
Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ingrid “Bing”; his children Gretchen Johnson (Chris) and Matt Schroeder (Liz); and his beloved grandkids Allison, Andrew, Nathan, and William.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna, Va on September 15, 2022 at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to the Alzheimers Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org/) or the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (https://www.patc.net/PATC/).

The wedding of a man’s daughter is certainly a major highlight in a man’s life. Nothing could have been truer for Bob as he joined the lively crowd for the Father/Daughter Wedding dance at Gretchen and Chris’s wedding. Bob literally came spurting out of the crowd- arms and legs waving wildly to greet Gretchen who was spinning was awaiting in her gorgeous white dress waiting for her dad to emerge – and boy, did he!They met in the middle of the dance floor with both of them glowing with joy and pride on their faces. Gretchen seemed almost stunned and thrilled with excitement as Bob took center stage and danced with the new Christopher Michael Johnson. We in-laws will always remember this show!
