My thoughts and prayers are with all members of the Dise family at this most difficult time. I served with Bob on the USS Tarawa during its world cruise and the celebration of the 12th anniversary of the battle of the Coral Sea in Australia and New Zealand in 1954.
My prayers to the Dise family during this time. I knew Bob from years of service as a Commissioner and Scoutmaster with Troop 987 in Vienna. His guidance and knowledge will be missed.
I was an ensign on the J.C. Owens (DD776), and CDR Dise was my first sea-going CO after graduating from the Academy in 1962. I served as his First Lieutenant and Honor Guard Officer. I often wondered what paths his career took after he left the Owens, and now I know. He “lived long and prospered”. He was a fine skipper and a shipmate to be emulated.
Bob was a USNA classmate and USNA instructor with my father (Mel Rogers). I have listened to many stories about those “good old days” and it certainly sounds like they enjoyed each other’s company. It was so kind of Bob to reconnect with us over the last couple of years – he really made it special by joining us at Mel’s 90th birthday and then at Mel’s life celebration. My mother, Edith, joins me in passing on condolences and prayers to Evelyn and all of Bob’s family.
God is holding his hand out for you to grab hold so that he can help you heal Isaiah 41:13. May this assurance and your wonderful memories strengthen and comfort you during this difficult time.
We’ve known Bob & Evelyn for over 40 years, primarily through Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfax, VA. Bob was the always the perfect and smiling friend. We’ve kept in touch over these many years and will continue to do so with Evelyn, since we are close neighbors at Falcons Landing. May God speed your soul Bob!
Bob was a Scouting friend of mine and I miss him. Bob was so upbeat and friendly. His Friend, Brian Horn
A friend of mine clipped Bob’s obit and mailed it to me today, asking me if he was a relative since he was so similar in appearance to my deceased father, Ervin Edwin Dise. And it turns out, he is a distant cousin. Indeed Bob’s father was Alvin Percy Dise, his grandfather was Joseph Dise, and great-grandfather was Henry Dise. Henry’s brother was William Faulkenstine Dise, William’s son was Noah Nace Dise, and his grandson was Maurice Dise, Ervin Edwin’s father and my grandfather. Ron Dise of Glen Rock wrote the definitive book of the Dise ancestry. I met Ron when I was trying to find my cousin, also named Robert Dise, son of Stewart and Viola Dise. I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s death. He was an impressive man. Sincerely, Martha Dise Patrick B. December 19, 1935 bigmarthdise@gmail.com
My experience with Robert Dise was when he was CO of the USS Ogden in Viet Nam in 1967. I was CO of a Marine artillery battery part of BLT 2/3 for 6 months. As we made numerous amphibious landings much cooperation was required between the ship’s crew and the landing force

Bob was one of the adult Boy Scout leaders that helped shape me & my adult Boy Scout leadership. My 15 years time as an adult Boy Scout leader, Wood Badge training, & Order of the Arrow, pales in comparison to Bob’s. He has left his mark in so many places, but also a place in my heart, and thousands of other scouts & scout leaders. I know there’s a campfire in heaven that Bob is now sitting by, telling stories. Rest in peace.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dise family, especially my friend Evelyn. I met Bob through his support of the National Lutheran Home Auxiliary alongside Evelyn. He and Evelyn are both special people and I am glad to call them my friends. Peace and love, Suzanne Adams, former Auxiliary Office Secretary
I don’t think anyone could imagine the impact that Bob and Evelyn Dise had on me and my daughter. They unknowingly changed the course of my life for the better. They have been my guardian angels on earth, and now from heaven and earth! I thank God that they were in my life.
