Robert "Bob" Lee Lyon passed on to his heavenly home on August, 13, 2010 after having suffered a heart attack. He died at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, VA.

Bob was born in Angola, Indiana on June 14, 1940, the son of Ralph and Rachel Lyon. He grew up in the Orland, Indiana area and graduated from the Bronson Michigan High School. Lieutenant Lyon enlisted in the Air Force in 1959 and proudly served his country as a navigator-bombadier in the Strategic Air Command. In 1966, he enrolled at Central Missouri State College. He earned a BS degree in Mathematics from the College. He subsequently accepted a position with the IRS in their Actuarial Division and while employeed there, earned a Master's Degree in Actuarial Science from Temple University. His tenure with the IRS spanned the years 1969 to 1998, when he retired from his Actuarial position.

Bob is survived by his wife Nan and her children, Glen Henrichs, Faye Mahoney, and Debra Carver; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by nephews and nieces Shannon and Shelly Threlkeld and John and Jill Jennongs and Carol Null.

Bob was a loving husband and he and Nan cherished the friendships of family and friends. Too, he and Nan were often hosts to their "surrogate sons" young men whom Bob nurtured and mentored throughout the youths' formative years and who became part of their "family".

Donations may be sent to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Vacation Bible School Program, 2589 Chain Bridge Rd., Vienna, VA 22181-5577, for which Bob assumed an active role as a planner.

  1. Dear Nan, My sisters and I can never thank you enough for all that you and Bob did for my parents. I am still reeling from the news of his death. He was such an institution in the neighborhood and you were both such dear and kind neighbors. He will be missed terribly and most especially by my mom. Hugs and Much Love to you, Puller, Kevin and Casey
