Robert L. Thoburn

Robert L. Thoburn, age 83, died on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at his home in Vienna, Va. Beloved husband of Rosemary S. Thoburn; father of David Thoburn (Jo), John Thoburn (Renee'), Mark Thoburn (Theresa). Ruth Shade (Burke), Lloyd Thoburn (Sheree), Robert L. Thoburn II (Sheila), Jonathan Thoburn (Michelle) and Mary Fusaro (Dennis); and brother of Jean Rinkes, Carl Thoburn and Karen Russell. He is also survived by 46 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mr. Thoburn founded Fairfax Christian School as well as helping establish numerous other schools.

I will never forget the kindness he and his wife showed me when I was young. My prayers and sympathy to the whole Thoburn family.
We enjoyed many conversations at a mutually favorite restaurant in Reston– ran the gamut of topics and appreciated his strong opinion and common sense –most always accompanied by a twinkle in his eyes. Our family will miss him.
You inspired my parents to start their own christian school, which in turn led them to establish a family business that is now in the second generation. You were always a spiritual inspiration in your stance for those things that were right in God’s eyes. Prayers for your family.
Thinking of you all at this difficult time. Uncle Bob was always a kind man – interesting to talk with.
