Robert Leonard O'Leary, 82, a previous long-time Nashua, N.H. resident, died early Sunday morning, July 6, 2014 at Fairfax (Virginia) Hospital after a brief period of declining health.

As the second son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (McCarthy) O'Leary of Milford, N.H. and Peterborough, N.H., respectively, Robert (Jr.) was born in Nashua on October 26, 1931. He attended Saint Patrick School with his older brother, the late James C. O'Leary, and graduated with high honors from Nashua High School in 1949, earning a full scholarship to Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. Upon graduating Summa Cum Laude from the College in 1953, Robert was awarded a Saint Thomas More scholarship to attend Saint John's University Law School in Brooklyn, NY, where he was invited to join the prestigious Law Review in his first year. Subsequently withdrawing from law school to fulfill his military commitment, he was honorably discharged in 1956 and went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School and become a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association. Robert worked for fifteen years for Sanders Associates at the Canal Street offices in Nashua in the contracts law and administration division. During those years, he enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends at the Nashua Country Club. In 1972, Robert moved to northern Virginia to assume the position of Vice President of Legal Affairs for the defense contractor Decisions and Designs, Inc., until that firm was acquired by Comarco Inc. in 1985. Robert was then promoted to Vice President of Legal Affairs for the parent company and he remained in that position until his retirement in 1996.

Robert married Barbara (Baker) O'Leary, also a native of Nashua, on August 5, 1955. Mrs. O'Leary currently resides in Fort Myers, Florida. Robert is also survived by their three children and their spouses: Patricia O'Leary McLaughlin and her husband Robert, Robert (III) and his wife Proserpina, and Mary O'Leary Marders and her husband Jeffrey; as well as by eight grandchildren: Caitlin, Ryan, Colin and Kevin McLaughlin of Connecticut, James and Mia O'Leary of Virginia, and Joshua and Jeremy Marders, also of Virginia.

Robert will be interred in Saint Patrick Cemetery in Milford, N.H. on August 8, 2014, at 10:30 am. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made in Robert's name to the Saint Anselm Fund at Saint Anselm College, P.O. Box 1738, 100 Saint Anselm Drive, Manchester, N.H. 03102.
