Russell E. Ahalt

Russell E. (Sonny) Ahalt, 90, of Warrenton, VA, passed away on 09/20/2023 after a prolonged battle following a burn accident in April.

Sonny was born on 07/15/1933 to Russell & Mildred Ahalt in Alexandria, VA.

He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1951 .

Sonny landed his first job as a grocery clerk for Safeway, kicking off a 45 year long career with the company. He did a brief stint with the Army from 1953 to 1955 which included a tour of duty in Korea.

In 1951, Russell met Gerry, and they wed in 1954, going on to have 6 children, David, Barbara, Jimmy, June, Alan & Kevin.

After retiring in 1996 Sonny spent his time doing some of his favorite things like watching his beloved Cowboys, Orioles and

John Wayne movies. He loved working outdoors, he was meticulous about his lawn. He often celebrated his hard work with his favorite drink, a Jack Daniels on the rocks, or a cold beer. Sonny enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Sonny was predeceased by his parents Russell & Mildred Ahalt, brother Charles Ahalt and son Alan Ahalt. Russell is survived by his wife Gerry, 5 children – David Ahalt, Barbara Kohlhaas, Jimmy Ahalt, June Gonzalez and Kevin Ahalt, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Phyllis Holloway-Lash and many nieces and nephews.

Services at Money and King Funeral Home Wednesday, September 27 at 11:30 am.

The interment will be at Fairfax Memorial Park at 1:00 pm.
