Russell Gordon Kerlin, Jr. of Vienna, Virginia passed away at Fairfax Hospital on February 24, 2008. He was 84 years old. Russell was born on February 24 near Mt. Jackson, Virginia to Russell and Ceclia Kerlin. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943 and fought in the Bouganville and Guam battles in World War II. After the war, he went to the University of Virginia and received his undergraduate and masters degrees.

He taught science in the Albemarle and Fairfax County Virginia school systems for almost 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annabel Hepner Stidley Kerlin and four children, David Kerlin, Joseph Kerlin, Susan Polk and Dianne Bergin. Russell leaves seven grandchildren, Kelly Cleborne, Katie and David Polk of Susan and Anthony Polk and Annabel, Noah, Naomi and Bethany Bergin of Dianne and Dennis Bergin. David is married to Carol Kerlin. Russell is also survived by his brother Derwood Kerlin and sister Bernice Tusing. He was predeceased by brother Deryl Kerlin.

Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, which Russell and Annabel were members of, on 2589 Chainbridge Road, Vienna, Virginia on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 2:00 P.M.
