Ruth Stewart Cadieux passed away on January 8, 2015 at Fairfax Hospital. She was born in Northampton, Massachusetts on October 2, 1925 to Maurice Stewart and the former Josephine Dame. She was the beloved wife of Eugene Gerard Cadieux for over 70 years; he predeceased her by five weeks.

She was also predeceased by her son, Peter, and her sisters, Winifred Glasheen, Constance Witherell, and Catherine Gagnon. She is survived by her daughter, Gena Cadieux, her son-in-law, Michael McGurrin, her grandson, Glenn McGurrin, many nieces and nephews, and a cousin, Barbara Mangraviti of Columbia, Maryland. Barbara and Ruth's niece Bridget Boswell were sources of great comfort and strength in Ruth's last days.

After graduating from Northampton High School in June 1943, she went to work as a "G girl" supporting the war effort in Washington, D.C. She held many jobs during her life, both for the government and in the private sector, ending her working career as a Claims Examiner for the Department of Labor, reviewing Black Lung claims. She made great Christmas cookies, sewed beautiful crafts, loved to swim, and enjoyed her grandson.

The family plans to hold a celebration of her life in the spring. She and her husband will be interred in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Catholic Charities of Buffalo.

Guestbook

  1. Eight years ago I had the pleasure of having lunch with your parents and my Mother, Eleanor Lois Kelly Stevens. Our Mothers talked for hours about their time together growing up before the war. My Mother loved living with Your grand parents and they were very kind to her. She told me last week that Ruth had fallen and she was very concerned. We are very sorry for your loss and you are in our thoughts and prayers.
